Market Research involves six major steps
  • Project planning- The project in-charge in consultation with statisticians determines the sample size and the format of the questionnaire to assemble data
  • Designing the questionnaire- Psychologists and demographers prepare the questionnaire and decide upon the locations for the survey
  • Field Interview- Field staff complete questionnaires by visiting respondents through home visits, market study, out of town visits
  • Statistical Interpretation - The data collected is tabulated and data analysis is done as a team exercise to interpret the findings
  • Analysis- Market analysts analyze the data according to the objective of the research and make interpretations and suggestions
  • Forecasting - Based on the research findings planning is done and most of the activities of the firm are worked out
Market research executives work as a team with the production, distribution and advertising personnel to interpret the results of their findings for suggesting improvement in an existing product or in planning new products.
