***If you are selected to become an astronaut trainee there are two years of basic mission training and continual evaluation. You will have the challenge for learning military water survival, becoming SCUBA qualified. There's the swimming test to swim three lengths of a 25 meter pool and then with full flight suit and tennis shoes another three lengths and tread water continuously for 10 minutes in that heavy flight suit. You will be exposed to high and low atmospheric pressures in altitude chambers, and be flown around in several rounds of a really fast jet in parabolic maneuvers. The jet flights produce short bursts of weightlessness, just like you'd feel in space. Then you are assigned to a mission for specialist training.
