Counseling is a helping profession wherein the counselor works with people who are otherwise normal but need help to cope with a difficult situation. Counselors are trained to provide support, consult, and use techniques and therapies. They help the client to deal with their problem.

Educational, Vocational and personal counselling is taught as a postgraduate diploma course. Counselors work in diverse fields such as drug deaddiction, rehabilitation, marriage related issues etc. Ideally a background  of psychology and sociology are preferred for counselors working in these areas.

*Diploma Course in Guidance and Counselling is conducted by NCERT, New Delhi and Regional Institutes of Education at Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mysore and Shillong

Eligibility  :In-service teachers – Graduates with teaching degree./those presently not working but having a graduate degree with a teaching degree and minimum two years of teaching or related experience. /Postgraduates in psychology /education /social work / child development/special education. Those with  a minimum of one year of teaching or related experience get preference. (Minimum 50% (5% relaxation for SC/ST).

Admission : Screening of application , selection test (essay writing and interview).

Course Duration 1yr .:January to December (Six months Distance mode, 3 months (Face to Face), 3 month practicum in home town. Medium of Instruction English & Hindi.

During distance learning phase, tutorials (once a month of two days duration/every two months of five days duration) at all study centres for learners in small groups who will be attached to mentors for seeking clarifications and any other help. Contact programme (3 months)will give intensive practical training and supervised field experience in schools. Internship(3 months0 in schools, guidance agencies etc.
