- Transmit news, commentary, music or announcements through radio and television networks
- Introduce videotaped news or live transmission from on the scene reporters
- Announce or host radio and television programs
- Announce slots for sports anchors
- Announce slots for weather news anchors
- Announce commercial breaks
- Interview guests
- Play recorded music interspersed with scheduled or spontaneous announcements of city happenings, weather, time, news or just ads and are known as disc jockeys
- As sports casters they make sports news and announcements, interview players and give updates of sports events
- Give live presentation of prepared political, economic, financial, military newscasts interspersed with clippings of social or political events, conventions, opinion with breaks for advertisements
