Career as Visualiser
Animation is used for creating special effects in TV, Advertising and Films. Animators follow four typical steps: 
  • Create a visual script consisting of drawings on paper for the animation sequence, key scenes and characters
  • Digitally scan the animations, view and manipulate these in three dimensions
  • Introduce illusion of movement . The power of motion is animation
  • Finally, with the manipulation of light, color, texture, shadow transparency are introduced

Employment Opportunities

  • Animation studios as story board artists, animation/character artists, layout artists, as 2D/3D animators, compositing artists
  • In multimedia, as audio and video specialists, visualizing, texture, lighting artists, editors in film labs etc

*National Institute of Design (NID) is an ‘Institute of National Importance’ and member of Association of Universities. It awards —Masters of Design (M.Des.) degree of two-and-a-half years duration and Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) of four-year duration.
NID Vijayawada  and NID Kurukshetra are independent autonomous institutes under the DIPP, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India and offer four-year long Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD).

Admission to all of the design courses is through a two-stage competitive exam which tests knowledge, skills and behavioural abilities of candidates.
Stage 1- Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims is conducted at various test centres across India and appearing for the DAT Prelims or being ranked in the shortlist does not guarantee automatic entitlement to admission. DAT Prelims primarily evaluates each candidate on: Knowledge, Comprehension ,Analysis Creativity Visualisation.
The test is of 3 hours and consists of two parts:
Part I: Multiple-choice questions marked out of 70 points. 
Part II: Subjective questions marked out of 30 points, with responses to be provided in visual and/or written formats. The question paper is in English. All questions are compulsory. There is no negative marking.
Shortlisted candidates are eligible to appear for the DAT Mains exam.

Stage 2: Candidates shortlisted after the DAT Prelims are invited to appear for DAT Main
The DAT Mains for these programmes has tests in different formats such as drawing/sketching, hands-on model making, group discussions, presentations etc. These are marked out of 100 and are conducted in English. The test centre is at NID Ahmedabad.

DAT Mains for M.Des.has two parts:
1-Studio Test:  consists of tests in different formats such as drawing/sketching, hands-on model making, group discussions etc.( 100 marks)
2-Interviews: separately for each discipline

**Several specialist institutes and private training academies teach animation courses offering a variety of modules- certificate, diplomas, degrees and postgraduate degrees
