We can differentiate one from other on the basis of following factors.
1. Faculty: Faculty at Amrita and VIT are reasonably good but more number of Ph.Ds are at Amrita I guess. Faculty at Amrita are friendly compared to faculty at other college

Yes, there is an entrance exam for admission into any of the engineering courses at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University. It is called AEEE (Amrita Engineering Entrance Examination). Try to get a rank below 5000.
