Every year, around 40,000 students take the IIFT entrance exam, but only 400 are admitted. The 2022–2024 MBA (IB) batch had more than 400 students, with 58% having work experience and 51% from an engineering background. To be eligible for admission to the IPM at IIFT Kakinada, candidates must have passed the 10+2/XII/HSC examination in 2021, 2022, or 2023, with a minimum of 60% (55% for SC/ST/PwD/Transgender candidates).

To be eligible for the MBA (International Business) at IIFT, you must have a bachelor's degree of at least three years in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks. For candidates from the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disability (PWD) categories, the minimum marks is 45%. There is no age restriction for applying for IIFT MBA admission. IIFT Kakinada also offers a 5-year IPM program. Admission to the IPM programme is based on IPMAT scores, which are conducted by IIM Indore.

However, the cutoff marks for 2024 are 57.98 for the general category, 52.98 for the general-EWS/OBC (NCL) category, and 47.98 for the SC/ST/PwD category. IIFT is a government institute and follows the reservation policy of the Government of India. To claim reservation, candidates must indicate their respective categories in the application form. According to Quora, a student with 60% in 12th class can get into IIFT if they perform well in other segments of the selection process. These segments include the written test, personal interview, group discussion, and essay writing.

The IIFT exam difficulty level is usually easy to moderately difficult. The level of questions is lower than the CAT, and there are always basic questions that can be solved in 10 to 15 seconds.
