CAT does not provide percentages and all shortlists are announced on percentile. To get into established IIMs you will have to secure atleast 98.5 percentile. Hence do as good in CAT as you can.

There is no fixed answer for this as there are a lot of factors that determine your chances of getting into IIMA. IIMA usually prepares composite score which assigns different weights to your 10th, 12th and UG marks and also CAT Percentile. With 65% and 71% you are seriously disadvantaged in 10th and 12th, hence you will have to make sure that you get really good CAT percentile. If I have to guess, I would tell you to score more than 99.8 percentile. SO prepare really well and give your best shot at CAT.

WAT is designed to substitute Group discussions. Many times because of some unwanted elements in the groups, a lot of people can not speak their mind freely. Hence to evaluate everyone on a similar scale WAT was introduced. And this has worked really well for everyone as there is no artificial pressure and everyone is judged on clarity of thought and not on just presentation alone. No, there is no need for reading novels for just this purpose as most often, the topic is so general that anyone can write about that. More than reading novels, i would recommend that you should focus on general awareness, news and current affairs.

You will have to apply for CAT and prepare well for it. After you do good in CAT, you are called for an Personal interview and Group Discussion/Written ability test. If you clear that as well, you will get an admission offer.

Does IIM – A consider class 12th marks? I have scored in class 10th: 74%, 12th: 56% and graduation: 54%.

The cutoff for class 12th marks is 50%, but there is a continuous scale and you will be almost at the bottom of the list. Hence to make up for that, you will need to score more than 99.7 percentile in CAT.
