No, IIM-A is not overrated.
It takes a lot to get to the top, and it takes a lot more to stay there for eight consecutive years. Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), did just that, monopolising the No.1 spot in the BT Best B-schools survey from 2003 to 2010.
However, in 2011, its golden jubilee year, the country's oldest business school slipped to the third spot, coming in behind its namesakes from Bangalore and Kolkata.
The fall from its perch was stunning, but it appears to have been an aberration. IIM-A has roared back to the top in the 2012 survey.
The institute scored well on brand value and in equipping students with the skills to become ethical business leaders. It also did well on the quality of global exposure: student exchange programmes, lectures by global business leaders and participation in global forums. Where it fell short was in the living experience, return on investment and, in what should be a big cause for worry, the learning experience.

Getting admission into the Executive MBA programs at the top Indian colleges GIBS, Bangalore, and Calcutta (IIM A, B, C) with a GMAT score of 660 can be challenging but not impossible. These programs are highly competitive, and the average GMAT scores for accepted candidates often range between 700-740. However, several factors influence the admission process:Work Experience: IIMs value substantial work experience (typically 8-10 years) with a strong record of professional achievements. Leadership roles, managerial experience, and demonstrated impact within your industry can significantly bolster your application.Overall Profile: In addition to GMAT scores, IIMs consider the applicant’s academic background, career progression, diversity of experience, and extracurricular involvement. A well-rounded profile can offset a slightly lower GMAT score.Personal Interview and Statement of Purpose (SOP): Your performance in the personal interview, along with a compelling SOP that clearly outlines your career goals and reasons for pursuing an Executive MBA, will play a critical role in the selection process. While GIBS offers robust MBA programs with strong industry ties and placement opportunities, focusing on these aspects can enhance your chances of admission into the prestigious IIMs for their Executive MBA programs.
