B.Tech. in Artificial Intelligence - Batch of 2028
4.4

Honest overview of IIT KGP.
Placements: The Department of Artificial Intelligence at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur was established this year. My 4 year B.Tech batch in Artificial Intelligence is the first AI batch at IIT KGP, therefore, no placement information is available for my course. However, the average placement package for CS at IIT KGP is 24 LPA. We can expect a similar package for AI.
Infrastructure: Hostel facility quality varies. All first-year students are accommodated in Lal Bahadur Shastri Hall of Residence, which has a capacity of 2000+ students. It has clean washrooms and spacious triple-sharing rooms. Almost all hostels have triple-sharing or single-sharing rooms. An interesting feature is that if the hostel/hall has triple or double-sharing rooms, you can have roommates of your choice. Meals also vary among hostels, but they are properly planned according to nutritional requirements and are better than expected from a hostel. The hostel registration process is simple, takes less than a few hours, and is done offline on campus. The fee is nearly 1 lakh per year, including mess and everything, and you must live in a hostel. PG/Room options are unavailable. Nearly all classes are within a large complex called Nalanda, where there are many halls. All classrooms have a centralized cooling system and accommodation for 50 to 300 students. IIT KGP has one of Asia's biggest libraries, accommodating thousands of students daily. Timings are 9:00 am to 11:40 pm, and it remains open 24 hours a week before end-semester or mid-semester exams. The library also has digital libraries and provides access to all paid platforms required for accessing e-books, journals, theses, and research articles. IIT KGP has enough facilities for undergraduate learning and research.
Faculty: The student-faculty ratio is 14 faculty members (teaching assistants and professors) per student, which is more than enough. The faculty members and TAs are approachable. Debraj sir of Physics is very dedicated, trying to include each student and ensuring they understand every topic. However, other TAs don't have much knowledge regarding teaching or understanding student problems; they only know the solutions to the discussed questions. Regarding exams, there are two main exams each semester: the mid-semester, accounting for 30% of the total grade, and the end-semester, accounting for 50%. The other 20% depends on the course, mostly 75% from tests (usually twice a semester, with the average taken) and 25% for attendance and other factors decided by the professor. For labs, the marking system varies substantially.
Other: I chose AI at IIT KGP because of its focus on AI basics and depth compared to other IITs, where AI departments are diluted with data science courses. The courses here are industry-oriented and will help you land a job if you follow them properly. Although many first-year courses are useless for certain branches (like engineering drawing for AI), the courses are generally tailored to industry needs. The number of courses per branch per semester should be reduced, and depth should be increased. For example, in the first-year "Physics of Waves" course, interference, refraction, quantum mechanics, vector mechanics, and electrodynamics are taught superficially, making it useless for branches where further "Physics of Waves" will not be taught. The frequency of exams is twice a semester, with tests almost every week (which most students don't take seriously as cheating is easy). The difficulty level is slightly above JEE Advanced for courses with relative grading and at the Advanced level for courses with absolute grading. The campus is huge, so traveling takes a lot of time and will cost money if you don't use bicycles or prefer to walk.

A college with world-class infrastructure, strong placements, and excellent college life.
Placements: The placement rate in our college varies by course. Around 80-90% of students got placed. The highest salary package offered is around 1 CPA - 2 LPA. The average salary package offered is around 15 LPA - 30 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is around 5 LPA - 8 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Google, Microsoft, and TCS. Around 70-90% of students got internships in companies like Tesla and Intel. Roles offered are analyst, engineer, and R&D.
Infrastructure: Our college offers Wi-Fi, advanced labs, modern classrooms, and a central library. Hostels are spacious and Wi-Fi enabled. The food served in the mess or canteen is very decent. Medical care is available 24X7 at BC Roy. Sports facilities include courts, a pool, and a large field to play.
Faculty: Semester exams in our college are challenging and emphasise conceptual understanding and problem-solving. Difficult varies by course and instructor. The pass percentage is high as most students prepare diligently and grades depend heavily on relative performance.
Other: Our college has good value for money.

IIT of joy - IIT Kharagpur.
Placements: As per last year's statistics, 68.75% of students get placed with the highest and minimum package of 33 and 8.5 Lacs, respectively. The average package was 17.96 lacs, and the median package was 16.50 lacs. Companies like Nestle, Britannia, etc. come every year for placements. Approximately 30 to 40% % students get internships in companies like Nestle, Britannia, etc.
Infrastructure: IIT KGP has great infrastructure with all facilities; my department has AC classrooms with modern projectors to teach. Wi-Fi is available on the whole campus, and at the same time, library facilities are also good. We have a central library that has all the useful books. Free bus and medical services are provided inside the campus. The hostel provides all required facilities, including sports, proper electricity supply, furniture, etc. But mess food is below average.
Faculty: All teachers are helpful; you approach them first and are well qualified. A few teachers are involved in some research. They thought so as well. Yes, the curriculum is relevant for my industry but a little modification is required. Marking is relatively new, so their are no fixed passing criteria. Their are two major exams in a semester, mid-semester and end-semester. Some courses are very tough and some are medium. Overall, the semester is above average.
Other: I chose this course because it is related to my culture and I was looking for the top 5 IITs while counseling and as per my rank, I got this. The best thing about this course is that it is not a loaded branch, so we can get a lot of free time to skill up ourselves. A new and advanced farming method should be thought of. Various events and extra activities happen yearly, like Malhar, NSSC, shaurya, Indian case challenge, etc. Two major festivals—Kshitij, a technical fest and Springs Fest—happen in January every year.

Satisfied because of the campus area, facilities are good and faculty are helping in nature.
Placements: There are 70 students in my batch. The highest salary for IIT Kharagpur aerospace engineering graduates can range from 30–40 lacs per annum for domestic roles and up to 1 crore or more for international positions. The lowest salary tends to be around 10–12 lacs per annum. These packages can vary based on the industry, company, and location, with core aerospace companies offering higher packages compared to other sectors, like consulting or tech.
Infrastructure: The labs are really good; everything is available, but some machines are old, and the Wi-Fi is sometimes really good and sometimes horrible—it doesn't even connect. Facilities in the hostel are okay. Everything is available, but some things are old; switches are broken, etc. The food is a little disappointing for vegetarians.
Faculty: Faculty members are really good-natured and supportive; they also have very good knowledge of their field. The course curriculum is relevant; it teaches the things that are necessary for the field and also develops students' mindsets. Semester exams are a little bit tough.

Good college and nice halls.
Placements: Almost the whole college gets placed. The highest package was around 1.8 cr. I'm not really sure about the lowest, though. Top recruiters are Google, Kepler Canon, Amazon, and Microsoft. Around 40 percent get internships. In my course, placements are quite low, but it's nice.
Infrastructure: Hostels are very bad. Hostels are known as halls. There are some halls, like: Rajendra Prasad Mammal of residence Radhakrishnan Hall of Residence Megnath Sahahall of Residence Azadhall of residence Nehru Hall of Residence Patel Hall of Residence And hjb and jcb.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful. Teachers are very interactive. Teachers are very handsome. Teachers are very cute. Teachers are very enthusiastic. Teachers are very enterprising. Course relevancy is very good, but Sandeep Saha is a bad teacher; he just yaps all the time.

A brief review of IIT Kharagpur.
Placements: In my course, 4 year B.Teach Aerospace Engineering, 38% of the total students got the placement. The highest package was 19.6 Lacs per annum and the lowest was 3 Lacs per annum. Top recruiting companies were Microsoft, American Express, Air India, Zomato, Flipkart and many others. Among 4 year B.Teach students, 38% of the students got placements and among 5 year dual degree (B.Teach + M.Teach), 50% of the students got the placements.
Infrastructure: All facilities are excellent, like the Wi-Fi speed, labs, and classrooms are big in size, and our campus has Asia's the largest digital library. The quality of hostel facilities is good. There are many hostels inside the campus and all hostels have different facilities. Some hostels have good rooms and other facilities but the mess food may be average and some hostels have average rooms and facilities but excellent mess food. This is because the hostel feels the same for all students. Our campus has its own hospital for medical treatment.
Faculty: All teaching staff are Ph.D. graduates and all of them have good experiences in teaching. Most of the courses are curriculum relevant and we should also study some courses that are irrelevant to the course. It makes students perfect engineers by their excellent curriculum and teaching and makes students ready for the industry. There are 3 types of exams conducted here, majorly mid-semester exams, class tests and end-semester exams. Exams are very difficult here. Pass percentage is very irregular but most of the time it is above 70%. .
Other: Rocket, space shuttle, and the study of space have fascinated me since I was a child. So I wanted to become an aerospace engineer and work at ISRO for India. The best thing about the course is that it increases our chances of getting a job at ISRO or any space center you wish to work at. Everything is good but if they removed irrelevant courses from the curriculum, it would be better. There are many fests held in our colleges and 2 major fests are held at the end of January every year; they are the fest and the Kshitij (technological fest). And there are many other events held here. The campus is rich in greenery and all the working staff and students are kind and helpful.
