IIT-Mumbai is far better than IIT-Kharagpur in all streams though many times CSE placement statistics clash with one another when talking about infrastructure. In aerospace branch the highest placement from Aerospace in IIT, Bombay is Rs.23 Lacs in Airbus France whereas it was 19 Lacs in IIT, Kharagpur from Boeing. Also, the average placement packages were 13 Lacs and 10 Lacs in the respective institutes. Although it is tougher to get into IIT-Mumbai than in IIT-Kharagpur, so one may also opt for aerospace in IIT, Kanpur which is there in all the IITs.

B.Tech in CSE from IIT Kharagpur and B.Tech in CSE from IIT, Delhi then the obvious choice would be: CSE from IIT-D. Reason being, faculty are generally very well acquainted and highly qualified and the programme is grueling & brings out the best from some leading to recent awesome Silicon Valley stories. Some more are slated to appear this year. Though, only these individuals can tell you the exact contribution to their success, I believe they would have done comparably well if they were in a different department or IIT. The research work they have done is also very good and large in volume. A rare department in IIT-D with a no non-sense approach. The students are also excellent. Very sharp and hardworking as well. Therefore, the department has to be one of the best in India'. Also, IIT-Delhi has a brilliant track record when it comes to placements. Their recent achievement is: 400 offers were made in the first four days of placements with the highest offer being $1,00,000 per annum.

Yes, the only entrance exam accepted by the VGSOM is CAT exam. You have to give the CAT exam and secure a high percentile in order to get a call from VGSOM.

No, a bachelors in science student can never apply for M.Tech in IIT or any other college because they take admission through GATE exam and B.Sc. students are not eligible to sit or appear for it.

Hi,
There has always been a doubt in aspirants mind to join B-School or Non B-School i.e. we consider IIMS, IMT, MDI, IIFT etc. As B-Schools and IITs or say FMS (Lack of campus and proper B-School environment). So, let me go through various factors which differentiate between B-School and Non B-School. I will be talking about the campus life of VGSoM and in comparison to IMT-G. The First and the most important thing which you get with VGSoM is IIT Kharagpur brand name which is huge in India because it is the oldest IIT in India. Although, I would agree that it is best for Engineering but having Tag always helps in calling companies, guest lecturers, placements, high class faculty members etc.
College Life and Placements:
So, the biggest advantage of being in any IITs is small batch size and many companies visiting campus which makes sure that you surely get placed that too with descent package. Even for summer internships, many companies visit and everyone gets placed. This year for summer internships, the roles given were market analyst/risk analyst/sales and marketing/retail management. And the final placements figures can be found on VGSoM website where maximum roles provided were from consulting/analytics/operations and few roles for core marketing/sales and finance as well. In finance domain you get roles like risk analyst i.e. a company has decided to invest certain amount in certain field, you need to analyze the risk. In operations you have given a plant and you need to evaluate the different processes there. Profiles are also given by some companies like spencer. Major consulting companies also hire for consulting where consulting means analytics (business analysis) at the beginning and as you grow up the ladder, you start consulting your clients. Hostel life. Mess food is descent although if you might face some problems at the beginning if you are from north/west because there will always be difference in taste. I have written about VGSoM and given an overall view about MBA in IITs, hope it helps you decide between IITs and other B-Schools. Good luck.
