Well, CU is good university. Placements record is also good, But i giving you advise that do not join any university, while taking any step, you can see the following parameters :

Accreditation
Institution and university should be recognized by the University Grants Commission(UGC), a statutory body of the Government of India.

Placement
Before choosing any institution to check the previous year records, which organizations visited for selecting freshman. Try to contact your seniors and ask about the placement, internship etc.

Don't be dependent on JEE , as the seats are very less as compared to seats for CET students.
Talking of your CET marks , if you are a general category student then its somewhat difficult to get admission,but if you are a SC/ST then definitely there is a probable chance to get admission. Beside all this things there is another way of getting admission by management quota .
Also remember that if you have domicile of maharashtra then only your CET marks will be considered.

There are not many core companies that come for the placement for mechanical engineering since the team has not been updated with industry tie-ups, it generally uses alumni connect for placements which make them very mediocre.
