For becoming an IPS officer you need to clear the IPS exam which is held by Union public service commission (UPSC) every year. It is a very competitive exam with more than 100000+ candidates taking the exam out of which under 200 are finally selected.
This exam completes in 3 steps:First step is prelims exam , it is objective (popularly known as CSAT).
Second step is mains exam , it is subjective (Also known as Mains).
Third step is personal interview.
I hope this helps
Prepare well for the exam

If you want to prepare for civil service then don't get yourself into B.Tech try some course like B.A, B.Sc. Take some literature course so that you can focus on civil service.

Hi Shrinath,
Your decision to become a police officer is really good. But generally, police inspectors are expected to have a graduation degree or any equivalent degree. All the Best.
