Inorder to get admissions at the Medical college, Kolkata, the candidate must write the NEET-UG exams. The admissions to this institution is based on the merit and scores of the NEET-UG exam. The candidates must have scored more than the cutoff which is set by MCC or the Medical counselling committee and the college. These cutoff marks are different each year, as they are determined on various factors like the total number candidates that had applied for the exam, difficulty level of the exams, etc. Admissions are based on the NEET marks and rank, but admissions cannot be ensured. This is because the admissions are given on the basis of the seat availability and the reservations made for students. Therefore, the students with the highest ranks would be selected for the admissions.

The minimum NEET percentage required for MBBS depends on the category to which the candidate belongs to. For exam the minimum cutoff for unreserved categories is 50%, while for SC/ST and OBC it is 40%. The Medical counselling committee or MCC releases the minimum marks or the cut off marks. There are several factors that are considered for determining the minimum marks. They are the total number of candidates attempting the NEET exam, difficulty level of NEET exam, total seats available, format of the exam, Normalisation method. The MCC also announces the opening and closing ranks for the different categories and rounds. The cutoff marks are of two categories namely the national level quota and the state level based quota. The candidates who scored more than the cutoff are called to appear for the counselling process. This is the next main process. In this process the candidate will be given a range of college he or she would be eligible to apply, according to the marks and ranks secured by them.
