Seats will be reserved for various categories at the NIDs as per the norms of the Government of India. For instance, the seats available for the BDes and MDes programmes are classified into different categories like Open, Gen-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, etc. The candidate will have to select their admission category at the time of filling out the NID DAT 2024 application form. Of the total seat intake, 10% of seats will be reserved for Gen-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, and 7.5% for the ST category. However, note that Foreign nationals applying under the Overseas category are outside the ambit of reservation of seats for the GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD categories.

A. NID cutoffs vary from course to course as well as the reservation category to which candidates belong. In 2019, NID cutoff for B. Des course for general category candidates at NID Ahmedabad was 96.84 whereas the cutoff for M.Des course vary depending on the discipline for which candidates had applied for admissions. The cut-off depends on a multitude of factors, including the category of the candidate, the seat intake, total applicants, performance of candidate in the NID DAT exam, etc. If any of these parameters change, the cut-off would also change.

The candidate needs to be born on or after July 1, 2004 for admission to the B. Des programme through NID DAT 2025 entrance exam. Note that relaxation of 3-years applies to candidates from following categories - Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST). Meanwhile, for candidates belong to the PwD category, the relaxation in the upper age limit is 5 years. The candidate before filling out the NID application form need to ensure that they meet the prescribed eligibility criteria. Note that if the candidate is found to be faking their age, he or she may be disqualified.

The National Institutes of Design (NIDs) currently offer the BDes and MDes courses. Admission to these courses will be based on the merit rank of the candidate in the NID DAT exam, which will be prepared by considering the performance of the candidate in DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. The weightage carried by the two exams is notified by the National Institute of Design at the time of declaration of final results. Note that in NID DAT 2025, the DAT Prelims will carry 40% weightage, while DAT Mains will carry 60% weightage.The candidate has to first appear in DAT Prelims, and if shortlisted has to next appear in DAT Mains. The DAT Mains exam for the BDes comprises a Studio Test, but also an interview for the MDes programme.

There are currently 425 seats available for the B. Des programme. Candidates who qualify in NID DAT 2023 exam need will have to participate in NID that 2023 counseling process. As part of the counseling process, B. Des applicants need to select their preferred choice of campuses. The allotment of seats will be based on the NID DAT 2023 merit rank of the candidate and choices opted at the time of counseling.

Total seats offered in B. Des courses at all the NID campuses is 425 seats. For M.Des course, NID seats on offer for admission are 347. The B. Des programme is offered at five institutes - NID Ahmedabad, NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Madhya Pradesh, and NID Assam. The various faculty members under which the programme is available include Faculty of Communication Design, Faculty of Industrial Design, and Faculty of Textile, Apparel, Lifestyle, and Accessory Design. Meanwhile, the M.Des course is available at NID Ahmedabad, NID Bengaluru, and NID Gandhinagar. Admission to both the B. Des and M.Des courses will be through the NID DAT entrance exam.

There are a total of 347 seats available for the M.Des programme. The programme is offered at NID Ahmedabad, NID Bengaluru, and
NID Gandhinagar campuses. Admission to the programme will be based on NID that 2023 merit rank.

There are five participating institutes of NID DAT exam that offer the B.Des program.These include: NID Ahmedabad NID Andhra Pradesh NID Haryana NID Madhya Pradesh NID Assam.The seat intake for the B. Des stands at 425. Among the participating institutes, NID Ahmedabad has an intake of 125 seats, while the rest of the NIDs each has an intake of 75 seats. Note that seats are reserved for categories like General-EWS, OBC, SC, and ST categories.Admission to these seats will be on the basis of NID DAT scores.Note that the next edition of the NID DAT exam, or NID DAT 2025, will be conducted tentatively in December 2024.The application form is expected to commence in September 2024.

Questions in NID DAT are drafted by an exam committee formulated by the National Institute of Design. The NID DAT exam is considering one of the toughest in the land, along with other popular entrance exams like NIFT and UCEED. Note that the test duration and other details related to the exam will be notified to the candidate through the NID DAT admit card. The candidate must follow previous years that Prelims questions papers to get better insights into the exam pattern, including types of questions asked, marking scheme, and difficulty level.
