Hello Lisa,
The cut-off varies for each category. For general category, your cut-off should be above 199 and for BC, above 198. As this is a highly reputed institute, you need to have a good cut-off mark.

Hello Ashwin,
Yes, PSG-Coimbatore accepts JEE main scores also for admission. But, it is not mandatory. You can also get admission based on your class 12th marks via TNEA counseling.

Right now, engineering Design packages ranges from INR 6 to INR 19.34 Lacs.
Details below:
1- This branch is inherently interdisciplinary. It combines both electrical and mechanical engineering. What this means is as of now in small firms most of the time mechanical or electrical engineers do our work. They don't specifically look or need design engineers. This is a disadvantage of choosing a non-core engineering branch. That being said this is in general true to all other inter-disciplinary niche branches like instrumentation and quality control, energy engineers, manufacturing engineers and so on.
2- Most large firms hire product development engineers, research and development engineers which this branch specializes in. Also all robotics companies require engineers with strong back-ground in electrical and mechanical engineering that is specifically provided by ED curriculum. This is why we see an increasing trend of robotics companies coming to IITM specifically looking for ED candidates. (Many of these are small new start-ups)
3- When applying for MS abroad, most universities require you to do a pre-requisite number of courses for the curriculum you are applying. They don't specifically see the branch you majored in as Bachelors. That's why we see a chemical engineer doing MS in machine learning, or a mechanical engineer exploring electrical engineering. Engineering Design gives you a unique position where you since you have core courses from both mechanical and electrical engineering, you can go into depth in either branch. This gives you an advantage. Basically for a mechanical pivoting to electrical vs an ED going to electrical as MS, the ED candidate has more likely done more courses which helps him in his application.
3- Since this is being offered by IITM the premier institute in the country, the opportunities provided regarding non-core jobs are immense. This is true to any branch in IITM. Everyone in IIT gets placed generally. ED as of now is also placed very well (Going by averages, better than mechanics) there is a trend towards interdisciplinary education in the world, so I think it has good scope. But remember always choose your interests, choose something you can give your all into. An amazing Naval Architecture engineer, one who designs state of the art ship's and takes pride in his work will always do better than an average computer Science engineer, who doesn't like his job and only puts as much effort as necessary.
