During the application process for B.E./B.Tech in Tamilnadu College of Engineering (TCE), applicants are required to submit necessary documents such as Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets for verification, Transfer Certificate from their previous college, and a Community Certificate for students who belong to the reserved category. Also, a Nativity Certificate may be required for proof of eligibility for admission under Tamil Nadu state quota. Those requiring scholarship or fee concession shall submit an Income Certificate. Application through Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) shall also enclose a copy of the TNEA application or allotment letter.

To get admission into Tamilnadu College of Engineering (TCE) for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses, the eligibility criteria vary with the course. In UG courses, students must have passed 10+2 education with relevant subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) from any recognised board. Admissions are made primarily on the basis of TNEA rank that is derived from the Class 12 board marks, and other entrance examinations that are state-level, like JEE Main. For postgraduate courses, candidates are required to have a valid bachelor's degree in engineering or technology along with the minimum qualifying marks stipulated by the institute. Admission to PG programmes is usually through Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test or through valid GATE scores.

Admission mainly goes on the basis of merit in TNEA, where the aggregate of 12th-grade scores from mathematics, physics, and chemistry exams is considered. For Computer Science or Electronics and Communication Engineering, the cutoffs are usually higher because of demand, whereas Civil or Mechanical Engineering may have relatively lower cutoffs.

Eligibility criteria for admission to B.E./B.Tech in Tamilnadu College of Engineering are: 10+2 with 50% aggregate (45% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) and having Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational as compulsory subjects. Candidates have to appear for counselling in TNEA, which is the short form for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions. Cut-off marks for admission are: General category-145-197; BC category - 133-190; MBC category - 120-175; SC/ST category - 90-155. Lateral entry scope: 50% aggregate in Diploma in any branch for general categories and 45% for other categories. Reservation: 69% for Tamil Nadu students and 31% for other states. Seats 1200 (B.E./B.Tech). Duration: 4 years (8 semesters). Intake through TNEA counselling 90%, Management quota 10%.
