B.A. (Hons.) in Arabic - Batch of 2024
Offered by Zakir Husain Delhi College, University of Delhi
3.8
3Placements4Infrastructure4Faculty4Crowd & Campus Life4Value for Money
Overall, our college is average. It has a good infrastructure.
Placements: The maximum number of students enrolled in our course is 30. Top recruiters are many government officials who need an Arabic translation, embassies, and many MNCs.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is good because of the new building. The canteen is not that good.
Faculty: All faculty members are very helpful and qualified. Our course curriculum is relevant.
Other: This is the only constituent college of University of Delhi that holds an annual convocation ceremony. The grounds remained occupied due to the ongoing construction of a new building at the college, so the ceremony was cancelled this year. Zakir Husain Memorial Lecture is a major annual event in the college calendar to commemorate Dr. Zakir Husain. The speaker is an eminent personality in his field. It is organised in the first week of February. Zakir Husain Memorial Lecture has been organised since 2006 annually.

"Supportive faculty and relevant curriculum, but infrastructure and placements need improvement"
Placements: Zakir Husain College does not have the best placement record compared to other top DU colleges, but it has a dedicated placement cell that organizes a job fair each year. Many students get opportunities to showcase their skills to recruiters. The college has seen companies like Reliance, Tata, Concentrix, and Paytm participate. Around 20-30% of students from different courses are typically placed. The highest package can go up to 5-6 LPA, the average package is around 3 LPA, and the lowest package is approximately 2 LPA. As a BA (Hons) Arabic student, you might not find many specific placements related to your course, but the placement cell is working to bring more companies on board.
Infrastructure: The Arabic department at ZHDC is equipped with basic facilities such as well-lit classrooms, access to the college's Wi-Fi, and a library with a good collection of Arabic literature and reference books. While there aren't specialized language labs for Arabic, the college library has digital resources and subscriptions to journals, which help enhance learning. The classrooms are spacious but could benefit from technological upgrades such as projectors or smart boards.
Hostel Facilities:
ZHDC does not have an on-campus hostel, but many students find accommodation in nearby private hostels or PGs. In terms of food, the canteen serves affordable and decent meals, though the variety might be limited. The quality of food is satisfactory, offering both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. There are no dedicated medical facilities on campus, but students can access nearby clinics or hospitals in case of an emergency.
Sports and Games:
The college has basic sports facilities, including a sports field and equipment for games like cricket, football, and badminton. However, ZHDC is not known for its sports infrastructure, and students primarily focus on academics and cultural activities. Those interested in serious sports may need to look for other avenues outside the college.
Overall Infrastructure:
The campus is a blend of historical architecture and functional buildings. While some areas need renovation, the college is gradually improving its infrastructure, especially with new construction projects. The campus is clean and green, creating a peaceful atmosphere for learning. However, facilities such as classroom tech, lab equipment, and student common areas still need modernization to match other DU colleges.
Faculty: The faculty in the Arabic department is generally helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. Most professors have advanced degrees in their fields and are well-versed in both classical and contemporary Arabic literature. They are approachable and willing to assist students outside of class hours, fostering a supportive learning environment. The teaching quality is considered good, with a focus on interactive methods and student engagement.
Curriculum Relevance:
The course curriculum is relevant and designed to provide a solid foundation in Arabic language and literature. It covers various aspects, including grammar, poetry, prose, and cultural studies, which makes students industry-ready for roles in translation, teaching, and other fields that require proficiency in Arabic. However, some students feel that more practical exposure, such as internships or workshops, could enhance its relevance further.
Examination Difficulty and Pass Percentage:
The semester exams in this college can be challenging, with a focus on conceptual understanding and application of knowledge. While the specific pass percentage can vary, it generally hovers around 70-80%, indicating that most students manage to clear their exams, although some may struggle with more complex topics.
Overall, students appreciate the faculty's dedication and the relevance of the curriculum, though they suggest that more practical training could better prepare them for the job market.
Other: I choose this course cuz I love to learn foreign languages and Arabic is the one of the important foreign language in the world and as a muslim it really beneficial for me. As we know the BA hons Arabic course is in the zakir husain only I don't know why it should be in other colleges too and seats are also very limited the course has only 29 seats in Entire DU.

Zakir Husain Delhi College is a good college.
Placements: In my B.A. Arabic class, there are 30 students. However, the number of students in a class varies depending on the course. The highest salary offered was 10 lakhs, and the average and lowest salaries were 4 to 5 lakhs. Recruiting companies are not fixed, so they vary from year to year. Most students got internships, but some did not because of their qualifications.
Infrastructure: The facilities and infrastructure at Ramanujan College are very good. The classrooms are clean and well-equipped with CCTV cameras. The library is well-stocked, and you can check out books for a couple of weeks. However, the college does not provide Wi-Fi or hostel facilities.
Faculty: The teachers at Ramanujan College are quite helpful. They have the right qualifications and knowledge that students need and are willing to help students with questions that are outside the scope of their courses. The teachers are also willing to help students after college hours. Semester exams are pretty good but studying for the exams can be difficult.
Other: I chose this course because I wanted to pursue a career as a translator among countries. The course is perfect for my goal. I wouldn't change anything about it. The events and fests are really good, as they happen in Delhi University, which is the best thing about Zakir Hussain. The campus crowd is pretty good and open to having a conversation. I'm not sure about the scholarships and extracurricular activities, but I would say it's worth every penny.
