NID Application Form 2025 - The application form for NID DAT 2025 closed on December 6, 2024 (11 am). 

The NIFT 2025 application correction window was open from December 6-11, 2024 (2 pm). Using the edit window, the candidate was allowed to edit some particulars in the form.

The application fee for NID DAT 2025 is INR 3,000.

To apply for NID DAT 2025, the candidate had to register and create an applicant account. Next, they had to log in to the candidate account and fill in all required fields, upload documents, and pay the exam fee.

NID officials will consider applications for the next admission stage if they meet NID DAT 2025 eligibility criteria.

The NID application form is for admission to the B.Des and M.Des courses offered by NID-participating colleges.

The NID DAT 2025 exam will be conducted on January 5, 2025.

Q:   What is the application fee for NID DAT?

A:

The application fee of NID DAT 2025 for the B. Des for General, General-EWS, OBC-NCL candidates is INR 3,000. SC, ST, PwD candidates only ned to pay INR 1,500. However note that the application fees for overseas candidates seeking admission to supernumerary seats is INR 5000. In case of the M.Des programme, the application fees for General, General-EWS, OBC-NCL candidates applying for one discipline is INR 3,000. If two disciplines are chosen, the application fee is INR 6000. Meanwhile, SC, ST, PwD candidate need to pay INR 1,500 for one discipline, and INR 3000 for two disciplines.

Q:   When will the application forms for NID 2025 be released?

A:

NID application form 2025 opened on September 3, 2024. The application form is open online at the NID admission portal -admissions.nid.edu. Candidates who meet the program-specific eligibility criteria may apply before the last date.

The NID application form is for admission to the B. Des and M.Des courses offered by participating colleges. 

The last date to apply for NID DAT 2025 is December 6, 2024 (extended from December 3). The candidate can also edit the submitted application from December 4-9, 2024.

The NID DAT 2025 (Prelims) exam will be conducted on January 5, 2025.

Q:   When will the NID DAT 2025 Prelims exam be conducted?

A:

The National Institute of Design (NID) will conduct the DAT Prelims exam on January 5, 2025.

The B.Des exam will be held from 10 am - 1 pm; meanwhile, the M.Des exam will be held from 10 am - 12.30 am.

The DAT Prelims for the B.Des programme will be conducted in a paper-and-pencil/pen mode. The question paper may  incude both textual and visual questions. Other details like duration of the exam, marking scheme, etc. will be published in the DAT Prelims admit card.

The candidate needs to report for the exam at 8 am. Gates closing time is 9.30 am. 

The DAT Prelims exam for the M.Des programme will be conducted offline and include a mix of objective and subjective questions. The paper will have a total of 100 questions.

NID DAT 2025 Eligibility Criteria

NID applicants must carefully go through the program-wise NID DAT eligibility criteria.

The eligibility criteria cover requirements like academic qualification, minimum marks, age limit, number of attempts, etc.

Note that if the candidate fails to meet the prescribed criteria, he or she could be disqualified.

NID DAT 2025 eligibility criteria - B.Des, M.Des courses

  • Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBCNCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) - the candidate must be born on or after 1 July 2002.

Note: In case of foreign nationals applying for admission under the Overseas (Supernumerary) Category, the candidate must be born on or after 1 July 2005.

  • General category candidates must be born on or after 1 July 1993.
  • Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBCNCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) - the candidate must be born on or after 1 July 1990.
  • PwD candidates need to be born on or after 1 July 1988.

Note: In case of foreign nationals applying for admission under the Overseas (Supernumerary) Category, the candidate must be born on or after 1 July 1993.

Educational Qualification 10+2 in any discipline Bachelor's degree of minimum four years duration OR its equivalent.

 

Q:   I belong to open category and am born before July 1, 2005. Can I apply for NID DAT 2025?

A:

As per the prescribed eligibility criteria, open category candidates seeking admission to the B.Des programme must be born on or after July 1, 2005. So, you are not eligible for admission.

Note that even General-EWS categories have the same criteria as general or open category. 

However, in case of SC, ST, and OBC-NCL candidates, there is a relaxation of 5-years in the upper age limit. Further, PwD candidates are eligible for 5-year exemption.

Q:   Can Diploma candidates apply for admission to the M.Des programme through NID DAT 2025?

A:

Diploma candidates need to meet the following conditions for admission:

Done full-time Diploma of 4-year duration after 10+2

Diploma in the following subjects is accepted - Design/ Fine Arts/ Applied Arts/ Architecture.

The Diploma must be done from a university or institute recognised by law in India.

Additionally, the candidate must have appeared in all the subjects and backlogs (if any) by June 30, 2025.

Q:   I have passed senior secondary exam from NIOS. Am I eligible for NID DAT 2025?

A:

If you have passed senior secondary exam from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) with minimum five subjects, then you are eligible for NID DAT 2024. The National Institute of Design recognizes boards like CBSE, IB, ICSE, or equivalent.

The candidate must make sure that they meet the eligibility criteria before filling out the NID DAT 2025 application form.

Note that all details entered by the candidate in the application form will be checked at the time of counseling. If there is any discrepancy, the candidate may be disqualified.

Q:   What details and documents are required to fill the NID application form?

A:

While filling out the NID application form, candidates have to enter their personal, academic, and personal information. They are also required to upload a photograph and signature, and caste Certificate if applicable. In case of candidates seeking admission under reserved categories, they also need to upload a category Certificate. PwD category candidates will also have to upload the relevant Certificate.

The category and PwD certificates should be in PDF format and max 2 MB.

Meanwhile, the photograph and signature should in JPG/JPEG format and within 75-100 KB.

Q:   How to apply differently for each campus of NID?

A:

There are currently 18 participating institutes of NIFT 2025. However, there is one combined NID application form for admission to all the participating colleges. The candidate will be able to select their choice of colleges, in the order of preference, at the time of counseling. Note that the option to select college preferences will only be available for B. Des applicants. M.Des applicants are not required to enter campus preferences. The application form for NID that 2025 will open sometime in September 2024. Candidates who meet the prescribed eligibility criteria may fill out the application form, irrespective of the campus they want to get admission into.

How to Fill NID Application Form 2024

The step-wise process to fill out the NID application form 2025 is given below.

  1. Registration - Click on the registration link given above. Select the program of study, and then fill in details like your name, email ID, mobile number, date of birth, etc. On successful registration, a unique applicant account will be created.
  2. Log in to fill out the form - You can log in to the account using your email ID and date of birth. Fill in all the required fields in the application form, including educational qualifications, contact details, and personal information. Additionally, you will also have to select an NID 2025 exam center
  3. Upload documents - In the penultimate step, upload scanned copies of your signature, photograph, and category documents as per the specified format. 
  4. Pay the application fee - Check that the application is complete in all respects because once the application fee is paid, the application process will be completed and the application can’t be edited any further.

NID DAT 2025 Application - Submission of application with Late Fees

The deadline to pay the NID DAT 2024 application with regular fees was December 5, 2023. 

For applications submitted between December 5 (4 pm) and December 7 (4 pm), a late fee amount will be levied. This amount will be in addition to the application fee.

Q:   What happens if I use incorrect information when filling NID DAT 2025 application form?

A:

It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to provide correct and verifiable information during the application process. If the candidate is found to be using incorrect or couterfeir information, his or her candidature could be cancelled at any stage of the admission process. Further, if the candidate tries to influence, either directly or indirectly, to influence the management or employees, then also the candidate could be disqualfiied.

Note that the NID DAT 2024 counseling will have a document verification process. During this stage, all the information and documents furnished by the candidate will be cross-checked.

Q:   Is it necessary to upload the relevant category certificate for NID?

A:

Yes, if you belong to any reserve category, then it is necessary to upload the required category Certificate. The documents have to be uploaded at the time of filling out the NID that application form. Note that candidates trying to use counterfeit document may be disqualified at any stage of the admission process if caught. The NID DAT 2025 counseling will also have a document verification process. The counseling process for the B. Des programme will commence soon after results are declared.

The NID DAT application form 2025 will open online at admissions.nid.edu. The application form is expected to commence in September 2024.

The National Institute of Design (NID) will also release a admission handbook for the B.Des and M.Des program.

The admission handbook will contain key details pertaining to eligibility criteria, application process, fee, eligibility criteria, reservation, seat matrix, and much more.

So, it is recommended that the candidate carefully goes through the NID DAT 2025 admission handbook before filling out the application form.

Q:   Can I fill NID application form offline in any way?

A:

The application form for NID DAT 2025 has to be filled online. There is no way to fill the form in any other way. The application link is provided on the official admission portal of NIFT; alternately, the candidate could visit this page to fill the application form. The application fee for NID that will also have to be paid online using online payment gateway. Note that the National Institute of Design (NID) will invite NID that applications for admission to the B. Des and M.Des courses. Currently, there are 425 seats for the B. Des programme, while the M.Des programme has an intake of 347 seats.

Q:   Can I change my date of birth when NID application form correction window opens?

A:

No, the date of birth cannot be changed in the NID application correction window. The candidate will also not be able to edit their name, the programme applied for admission, registered email id, and phone number, in the application form. Note that these details are entered by the candidate at the time of registering for the NID DAT exam. Among the particulars that the candidate is allowed to edit in the NID DAT application form include the exam centre, address of communication, uploaded documents, category under which admission is sought, and any other details not covered in the paragraph above. The candidate needs to go through the list of items that can be edited and that can not be edited before filling out the NID DAT application form to avoid trouble afterwards. The application edit window for NID DAT will open within a few weeks of the closure of the application form.

No, NID application fee once paid is not refunded under any circumstances. So, before filling out the form, the candidate must be sure whether they want to appear in the exam or not. How to Make Corrections in NID Application Form 2025?

Candidates can follow the steps mentioned below to make corrections to the NID application form:

Step 1: Visit the official website of the exam 

Step 2: Log in to the application correction portal using your email ID and date of birth

Step 3: Click on any one of the given options:

  • Application Detail - To check details filled up during Sign-Up
  • Upload Document - To upload scanned photo and signature again
  • Print Application - To print the application form again

Q:   Will there be reservation of seats at the NIDs?

A:

Seats will be reserved for various categories at the NIDs as per the norms of the Government of India. For instance, the seats available for the BDes and MDes programmes are classified into different categories like Open, Gen-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, etc. The candidate will have to select their admission category at the time of filling out the NID DAT 2024 application form. Of the total seat intake, 10% of seats will be reserved for Gen-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, and 7.5% for the ST category. However, note that Foreign nationals applying under the Overseas category are outside the ambit of reservation of seats for the GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD categories.

Q:   How many candidates appear for NID DAT?

A:

There is no official notification on the number of applicants for NID DAT 2024.

However, as per unofficial sources, around 15,000 applicants appeared in the NID DAT 2024 (Prelims) exam. Note that only shortlisted candidates were eligible to appear in DAT Mains. The DAT Prelims was held on December 24, 2023.

If the National Institute of Design releases the exam statistics for the NID DAT exam, the details will be updated here. Note that the current session of the NIFT exam is conducted by the NTA. Now considering the NTA releases the exam stats, including the number of applicants registered, appeared, qualified - it is likely the details will also be released for the NIFT 2024 exam.

Q:   What happens if information furnished by the candidate is found to be incorrect during NID document verification process?

A:
The candidate will be provisionally allowed to appear for the that Prelims and subsequent tests, if shortlisted, based on the information furnished by the candidate in the application form. Note that is the sole responsibility of the candidate to provide / upload valid information and certificates at the time of submitting the application form. The detail entered by the candidate will be verified during NID counseling. On verification, if the information furnished by the candidate is found to be incorrect or invalid, the candidate can be disqualified. Further, the decision of NID will be final and binding in this case.

NID DAT Exam Centres 2025

The National Institute of Design will conduct the DAT Prelims exam in 22 cities across India. Each of these exam cities may have one or more test centers.

The candidate will have to select an exam city of their choice when filling out the NID DAT 2025 application form.

The allocation of exam centers will be done based on the number of applications received and seats available at various test centers in the city selected at the time of application. The name and address of the exam center allocated to the candidate will be mentioned in the NID DAT 2024 admit card.

Q:   How can I select exam centers for NID DAT Mains 2025?

A:

The candidate will be given the option to select NID DAT 2025 exam centres at the time of filling out the application form.

In case of DAT Mains, the exam center selection window will open sometime in April 2025. The test centres will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. In the case of candidates who fail to select test cities, the system automatically allocat test cities based on the availability of seats in respective test centres. The details of the test centre allocated to the candidate will be mentioned in the NID DAT 2025 admit card. The NID DAT Mains 2025 Studio Test for B. Des will be held in the last week of April 2025 (tentative). On the day of the exam, the candidate has to report to the exam centre as per the timings mentioned in the admit card.

Q:   In how many cities will the NID DAT 2025 exam be conducted?

The NID DAT 2025 (Prelims) exam will be conducted in 22 cities across India. The candidate has to select their choice of exam centre at the time of filling out the NID DAT 2024 application form. A:

Indian nationals who belong to the General and General EWS categories need to be born on or after 1 July 2003 to apply for NID that 2024. In the case of candidates belonging to the OBC-NCL, SC, and ST categories, candidates born on or after 1 July 2000 may apply. Meanwhile, PwD candidates who are born on or after 1 July 1998 may apply for admission. The candidate needs to ensure that meets the age criteria before filling out the application form. It is because every detail entered by the candidate will be cross checked at the time of counselling, during the document verification process. Q:   What are the design courses that will be offered through NID DAT 2025 exam?

The NIDs offer a full-time B.Des programme of 4-year duration, and a full-time M.Des programme of two-and-half years duration. 

The institute, in addition, also offers a PhD program. The programme can be pursed full-time or part-time. 

Admission to the design courses at the NID is conducted through a Design Aptitude Test (DAT). The exam comprise DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

The final result or merit list is prepared by giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

No, unfilled seats in SC/ ST category will not be de-reserved. Meaning, such seats will not be transferred to the open category. The same applies to GEN-EWS category seats. 

So, even if there are vacant seats left in SC, ST, and GEN-EWS category, such seats will lapse.

Yes, if there are unfilled seats in OBC-NCL, such seats will be de-reserved. Meaning, such seats will be transferred to the open category. Allotment of de-served seats  will be same as open category.

The allotment will be based on NID DAT 2025 merit rank.

When filling out the form, the candidate needs to upload the relevant caste/ tribe certificate (in English/ Hindi).

The certificate should be :

  • Issued in the name of the candidate.
  • Should clearly mention the caste/ tribe the candidate belongs to
  • Be issued by a competent authority

Candidates who are yet to appear for Class 12 exam in 2025 must have passed the exam in the first attempt. If the candidate has any backlog/ compartment/ supplementary or have not cleared the Class 12 exam, the candidate will not be considered for admission.

Seats that are left vacant/ unfilled in overseas (supernumerary) category will lapse. This means such seats will not be transferred to other categories. 

Candidates applying under overseas category are advised to go through the detailed admission process and eligibility criteria before applying.

Candidates seeking admission under overseas category will need the following documents:

  • Self-attested copies of the relevant pages of their passports.
  • Self-attested copies of their grade sheets/ marksheets of SSC (Grade X) and HSC (Grade XII)

As per information given in the NID admission handbooks, overseas candidates cannot apply for admission to GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST seats. Such candidates can't also apply for age-relaxation, scribe, etc.

Also, the fee structure for overseas category is different.
