NID Question Papers 2025 - The National Institue of Design (NID) has released the sample papers for NID DAT 2025.

The sample papers have been released for both B.Des and M.Des courses. Download the NID DAT 2025 sample paper in PDF format from the links given below.

Q:   How many sample papers I need to solve to get ready for NID DAT 2025?

It is difficult to put a specific number as to how many sample papes one needs to solve. But that being said, you must try at least 10 sample papers. Also, make sure that the sample papers covers the entire syllabus and are not repetitative.

For instance, some sample papers may contain the same types of questions, though the language may be altered a bit. 

If you need to get the maximum out of the sample papers, their content needs to be different.

Q:   What is the difficulty level of NID DAT?

A:
NID Entrance Exam is considered to be one of the toughest design entrance exam conducted in the country. In NID DAT, more weightage is given to subjective, drawing related questions. Thus, candidates need to be extremely creative and have a clear understanding of their concepts when appearing for the NID exam. In NID DAT 2022 for the B. Des programme, the that Prelims carried 40% weightage, while that Mains carried 60% weightage. During the that Mains, which comprises a Studio Test, the candidate will be tested hand-on and have to show their drawing abilities, creativity, innovativeness, and material-handling ability.

NID Admission Process 2025

Admission to the National Institutes of Design (NIDs) is conducted through the NID DAT entrance exam.

The NID DAT 2025 entrance is a two-step process.

  1. Step 1 - The candidate first has to appear in DAT Prelims
  2. Step 2 - Candidates who qualify DAT Prelims have to next appear in DAT Mains.

The DAT Mains exam for the B.Des program includes a Studio Test. However, M.Des candidates will also have to appear in a personal interview in addition to the Studio Test. 

The FINAL results of NID DAT 2025 will be prepared by giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. Note that if a candidate fails to appear in DAT Mains, then he or she will not be included in the merit list.

Q:   How to download the NID sample papers?

A:
The sample papers for NID can be downloaded from the official website of NID - admissions. Nid. Edu. Alternatively, the candidate may download the previous years question papers and sample papers from this page. To download the NID sample papers, the candidate simply needs to click on the relevant sample paper they need to download; there is no need to log-in to download the sample papers. The sample papers are available in downloadable pdf format. Candidates may note that sample papers contain questions similar to the ones that are asked in the actual exam.

Q:   Can I carry the NID question paper with me after the exam?

A:
No, the candidate is not allowed to carry the question paper of the NID exam with them after conclusion of the exam. In fact, the question papers of NID will not be released neither for that Prelims or that Mains. The reason for the non release of the question paper is because the NID question papers are highly subjective in nature. The question paper of NID DAT will be set in English language. Note that the candidate can download unofficial versions of the NID question papers released by the coaching institutes. These question papers will be mostly memory-based, compiled with the help of questions shared by candidates.

Q:   Can I solve NID sample papers simultaneously with mock tests?

A:
The sample papers are usually solved as part of ones exam preparation at a very early stage. However, mock tests are taken in the last few weeks leading up to the exam. Unlike sample papers, the main purpose of the mock tests is to give the candidate an exam-like ambience so that the candidate gets an idea as to how the actual exam would be. The mock tests often have a timer on, and the candidate will have to solve the paper within the given time. That being said, mock tests may contain fewer questions than the actual exam. Note that mock test cant be a substitute for sample papers, which are the mainstays to improve ones problem solving and time management skills.

However, it is recommended that the candidate makes sample papers a part of ones exam preparation as early as possible. The right time of solve NID DAT Sample Papers

While one can't put a specific timeframe as to when one should start solving sample papers, still it is generally accepted that the earlier you start the process, the more you stand to gain.

For instance, you can start solving NID DAT sample papers even after completing a chapter.

Tips to prepare for DAT Prelims

DAT Prelims is the 1st stage of the NID DAT 2025 entrance exam.

Here are some sure-fire tips to prepare for the exam.

  1. Carefully go through the syllabus - While NID doesn't release any official syllabus, you can download the NID DAT syllabus prepared by our experts after analyzing previous years' papers.
  2. Refer to the exam pattern - This exercise will help you get insights into the types of questions asked, marking scheme, sections, and also weightage. 
  3. Prepare a study timetable - You can prepare the table taking into account the difficulty level of various topics. Remember you will need more time to prepare the difficult topics.
  4. Do timely revision - One of the greatest mistakes a candidate can commit is not doing timely revision. It is because if you leave a topic unattended for an extended period, the effort you have put in to learn the topic the first time may get undone. Remember, until a topic has been truly internalized you are not supposed to relax.

Q:   Is there negative marking in NID DAT?

A:

There is no negative marking in NID DAT 2025 exam. The candidate is recommended to go through the detailed exam pattern to get insights into the question paper structure, including types of questions asked, sections, etc. The DAT Prelims exam for the B. Des programme has two parts. Part I will include 22 objective-type questions, whereas Part II will include 4 subjective-type questions. Objective-type questions carry 1-2 marks, while subjective-type questions carry 15-20 marks. The total marks for the NID DAT Prelims will be 100 marks.

Q:   How much time is needed to prepare for the NID DAT 2025 exam?

A:

A candidate would ideally need around 6 months or so to prepare the NID DAT 2025 exam. This time frame will allow the candidate to go through each topic in depth and prepare for the exam effectively. However, if the candidate has a strong grip over the fundamentals and basis concepts, it is still possible to prepare for the exam even in 3 months or less. But as the time duration shrinks, one will have to be more judicious with the use of each day and hour and be meticulous. Having a well defined time table in place will help matters. The time table can include things like day-wise topics to read and revise, sample papers to be solved, etc.

Q:   What is NID DAT Prelims exam pattern?

NID Entrance Exam comprises that Prelims and that Mains. NID DATA Prelims is a written entrance exam whereas NID DAT Mains comprises an offline based Studio Test (plus an Interview round for the M.Des programme). NID DAT Prelims for the B. Des programme is a paper-and-pencil/pen exam. The question paper may include both textual and visual questions. The language of the test will be English . Note that the test duration and other details related to the exam will be notified to the candidate through the NID DAT admit card. The candidate must follow previous years that Prelims questions papers to get better insights into the exam pattern, including types of questions asked, marking scheme, and difficulty level.

Q:   When will NID answer key be released?

A:

The National Institute of Design (NID) in its admission handbook for M.Des and B. Des has clearly specified that it will not release any question booklet cum answer key for the that exams. Candidates may note that the question booklets are highly subjective, and as such don't have any model answers. The candidate therefore is suggested to rely on resources like exam analysis released by Shiksha. Com and other sites, including by coaching institutes, to get an insight into their performance. Note that the NID that 2024 exam will be held in January 2024 (tentative). Scores of the exam will be used to shortlist candidates for DAT Mains.

Q:   When to download the answer sheets of NID?

A:

The answer sheets of NID will be released by the National Institute of Design (NID) only after the admissions process is complete. No request for answer sheets during the admissions process will be entertained. Note that the answer sheets will be available for one year after the announcement of the final result. The answer sheets can be availed on payment of INR 1000/- separately per exam. Note that to make a request, along with the fee payment, the candidate is also required to upload a copy of their admit cards duly attested by the Invigilator with the seal of the Test Centre.

Q:   Will the National Institute of Design release NID question paper along with the answer key?

A:
The National Institute of Design (NID) in its admission handbook has clearly mentioned that it will not release any question papers nor answer keys for the NID DAT exam. The institute has mentioned in the handbook that the Prelims and Mains question papers are highly subjective, and so don't have any model answers. Note that the NID DAT exam is conducted for admission to the MDes and BDes courses. The candidate may however download unofficial question papers for the Prelims and the Mains exam released by coaching institutes. The only thing the candidate needs to remember in this case is since they are not official, the questions may not be exact replicas; typically the questions are picked from candidates who have appeared in the exam.

No, unfilled seats in SC/ ST category will not be de-reserved. Meaning, such seats will not be transferred to the open category. The same applies to GEN-EWS category seats. 

So, even if there are vacant seats left in SC, ST, and GEN-EWS category, such seats will lapse.

Yes, if there are unfilled seats in OBC-NCL, such seats will be de-reserved. Meaning, such seats will be transferred to the open category. Allotment of de-served seats  will be same as open category.

The allotment will be based on NID DAT 2025 merit rank.

When filling out the form, the candidate needs to upload the relevant caste/ tribe certificate (in English/ Hindi).

The certificate should be :

  • Issued in the name of the candidate.
  • Should clearly mention the caste/ tribe the candidate belongs to

Seats that are left vacant/ unfilled in overseas (supernumerary) category will lapse. This means such seats will not be transferred to other categories. 

Candidates applying under overseas category are advised to go through the detailed admission process and eligibility criteria before applying.

  • Self-attested copies of the relevant pages of their passports.
  • Self-attested copies of their grade sheets/ marksheets of SSC (Grade X) and HSC (Grade XII)

As per information given in the NID admission handbooks, overseas candidates cannot apply for admission to GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST seats. Such candidates can't also apply for age-relaxation, scribe, etc.

Also, the fee structure for overseas category is different.
