Just try to solve as many questions as you can after completing each topic. This will really help you to understand topics better. Also, note all the questions which you were unable to solve during preparation and try to find their solutions. This is the most appropriate way of studying Inorganic Chemistry. Just read the theory and do the questions. Because for this part there are not many surprises in the exam. Sometimes In exams, you’ll find questions similar to what you have practiced.

Just make a habit of writing whatever you are studying, at least the reactions. It is important as you’ll not remember everything that you’ve studied. But if you have practiced something by writing it, it will definitely strike to your mind when any such question comes in the exam.

Start this part of your course much before the exam because it requires at least 2-3 times revision of the whole syllabus. For Inorganic Chemistry revision is the most important and for that, you should have enough time. So make your timetable accordingly.

Make a habit of marking important things. Inorganic has a very vast syllabus that you may fail to remember, so just mark important reactions, concepts, and important questions. It will help you during your revision.

In the exam, it is better to start the question paper with organic chemistry because it requires little time. In any given question, there is very little chance of thinking about the solution twice. If you know the answer you will mark it directly, if not, don't waste your time in making your own logics.

Important Sections in Inorganic Chemistry

  • Understand the mechanism of the reactions properly. In JEE, they usually ask paragraph type questions or multiple choice questions in which some reaction is given to us and various things like intermediate product, the final product, some catalyst used in the reaction are asked. To do such type of questions, you need to understand the theory properly. Also, you should have sufficient knowledge of each and every compound or elements used in the reaction. So whenever you are studying any reaction, just try to gather every information about it.
  • Try to understand the periodic table properly. This will help you a lot, for example, when you are studying the properties of s-block and p-block elements, it will help you in understanding their properties even better. Also, you can relate them more easily.
  • Just give proper time to each and every topic. Sometimes what happens is that the students don't give much attention to various topics, but they fail to realize that those topics are important as well. Sometimes JEE gives a huge weightage to these kinds of topics. Especially Metallurgy, just go through it properly. Just try to understand all the metallurgical process and then study each of the individual elements. Don’t mug up everything rather try to understand step by step.

Reference Books for Inorganic Chemistry

Coming to books, the first choice is NCERT. Before starting anything just go through it line by line. After completing that, you can refer to O.P. Tandon as it covers almost all the syllabus of JEE. After completing the theory just practice the problems given and you’ll learn a lot. Basically, in the subjects which require mugging, you cannot predict your level of preparation just by reading some theory. Solving questions that will give the idea of how much you’ve learnt. So practicing questions is a must. Similar to that book there is one more book J.D. Lee. This is a very good book for JEE. This book has lots of multiple-choice questions, single choice as well as assertive-type questions. This will help you clear most of your doubts.

Along with that, try each and every previous year's questions. Previous year questions are very important and you should solve them as if you're giving a test. They'll show you the difficulty level of JEE and you'll also get a better idea of your level of preparation.

Summing up, I would say there are no shortcuts for success, it will be your hard work, dedication and your honesty that will lead you towards your goals.
