UPSC IAS Result 2022 (Main)

UPSC Main (written) Results 2022: The Commission is expected to release the UPSC Civil Service (IAS) mains result 2022 soon. As per the media reports, the result was expected on December 2 but it was not released. The Commission selected 13,090 candidates for the main exam. This year, the Commission selected a higher number of candidates for the main exam because of the higher vacancies notified for the exam. The Commission will release the roll number and names of the qualified candidates in the IAS result PDF. The Commission conducted the UPSC main (written) exam 2022 from September 16 to 25 in pen and paper mode. The Commission will release the Civil Service (IAS) main result at its official website upsc.gov.in.

What After UPSC IAS Result 2022?

The candidates who clear the UPSC main exam will have to fill out the Detailed Application Form -II (DAF-II). The candidates will be required to mention the details of all their academic and professional credentials in the DAF-II. The candidates will be required to carry these documents with them for the UPSC interview. 

UPSC personality test will be conducted offline in January and February (as per the notice). The dates of the UPSC personality test will be released later.

UPSC Personality Test Requirement

“Some of the qualities to be judged are mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, the balance of judgment, variety and depth of interest, ability for social cohesion and leadership, intellectual and moral integrity.”

In addition to the above, the candidates will be tested for the presentation of their expression of thought and their opinion related to various issues.

UPSC Personality Test Marks

The candidates can see here that the UPSC personality test can make or break the dream of becoming an IAS. The total mark assigned for the UPSC personality test is 275 marks.

How the Candidate is Allocated to Service?

UPSC prepares a final merit list based on the marks secured in the UPSC Main (written+personality test). Each candidate provides their service preference list. The preference is matched with the vacancies in a particular category and the candidates are allocated to a service where there is a match of service preference and vacancy. In case of first preference is not available, the second preference is matched for the vacancy and so forth. The category of the candidates also plays its role. The service allocation is done for the vacancies in a particular category only.

    UPSC Personality Test Syllabus

    There is no syllabus defined for the UPSC personality test. The official notification mention that the candidate will be interviewed by a Board who will have before them a record of the candidate’s career. The candidate will be asked questions on matters of general interest. The object of the Interview/Personality Test is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for a career in public service by a Board of competent and unbiased observers. The Interview/Personality Test is intended to judge the mental calibre of a candidate. In broad terms, this is really an assessment of not only intellectual qualities but also social traits and interest in current affairs.

    The candidates should prepare the current affairs daily so that they can answer the questions asked in the UPSC personality test. The newspaper of the interview day is very important for the interview.

    Some of the qualities to be judged are mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgement, variety and depth of interest, ability for social cohesion and leadership, intellectual and moral integrity

    The technique of the Interview/Personality Test is not that of a strict cross-examination but of a natural, though directed and purposive conversation which is intended to reveal the mental qualities of the candidate.

    The Interview/Personality Test is not intended to be a test either of the specialized or general knowledge of the candidates which has been already tested through their written papers.
    Candidates are expected to have taken an intelligent interest not only in their special subjects of academic study but also in the events which are happening around them both within and outside their own State or Country as well as in modern currents of thought and in new discoveries which should rouse the curiosity of well-educated youth.

    UPSC IAS 2022 Result (Main) - Tie Resolution Principle

    Sometimes two or more candidates secure equal marks in the UPSC result. In those cases, UPSC has notified the following rules for such resolution. These rules will come into play when two or more candidates have the same aggregate total marks in the IAS exam. The UPSC has defined the resolution mechanism as follows.

    1. If the marks secured by two or more candidates are the same in the aggregate total (out of 2025), the candidate who had secured more marks in the compulsory papers (Essay, GS I, GSII, GS III, GSIV) and the personality test (IAS interview) combined will be given preference over the others.

    2. In case, the candidates are tied in the above situation also, the candidate who is older will be given preference over the younger one.

    UPSC IAS Prelims will serve as the Screening Exam for IRMS 2023

    UPSC Civil Service Prelims exam will serve as a screening exam for the IRMS main exam. The UPSC will not conduct a separate prelims exam for the candidates who applied for the IRMS exam (as done for the Indian Forest Examination). The selected candidates will be declared selected for the IRMS main exam.     The Ministry of Railway informed through a press release that Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will hold a specially designed exam for the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) from 2023.     UPSC IAS 2022 Interview: Document Required For Interview

    The Commission released a notice on November 24 mentioning the list of documents required on the day of UPSC personality test. The candidates are required to keep the original and one self-attested copy of all the relevant certificates with them on the day of the interview:

    • Degree of Graduation or equivalent examination with mark sheets issued by the University.
    • Matriculation Certificate for the date of birth confirmation purpose
    • An internship Completion Certificate for MBBS Degree or any other Medical Degree will be required for the doctors.    
    • The doctors having a degree from a foreign university, the equivalence certificate issued by the Association of Indian Universities/ National Board of Examination (for MBBS or any other Medical Examination) will be required.
    • Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Other Backward Classes Certificate/Income & Asset Certificate for Economically Weaker Section in the prescribed format issued on or before 22.02.2022.
      The candidates belonging to the PwD category will have to show a certificate in support of their claim issued before February 22, 2022.
    • Hailing from a Certificate issued by the Competent Authority issued before February 22, 2022.
    • Ex-servicemen Certificate.

    UPSC IAS Main Result 2022 : List of Exam Centres for Main Exam

    UPSC conducted the Civil Service Main Exam at the selected exam centres only. The total number of UPSC main exam centres is 24 only. The list of UPSC main exam centres is given below:

    UPSC IAS 2022 : Number of IPS to Be recruited

    The Ministry of Home informed the Parliament last year that IPS need more cadre strength and hence the Ministry will recruit 200 IPS officers every year till further notice.

    The number of IAS officers recruited every year in 180. The number is based on the B.S. Baswan Committee report.

    UPSC IAS Result 2022 : Number of Vacancies

    There are 1,011 vacancies in the UPSC exam 2022. The original notification mentioned 861 vacancies in the original notification but later 150 vacancies of Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) were added by the Commission.

    UPSC IAS Main Result 2022: Number of Candidates to be Selected

    The UPSC main result (written) is expected anytime soon. Around 2500 candidates will be selected for the UPSC personality test which will be conducted in the second half of January and February 2023.

    UPSC IAS Main Result 2022: Number of Candidates Appeared

    The candidates should note that the Commission selected 13,090 candidates for the UPSC Main exam 2022. We can assume that around 13 thousand candidates appeared in the exam. This will make the competition tough in the main exam.
