Australian PM - Anthony Albanese, while travelling to India in the first week of March, made a couple of announcements for his Indian counterpart. The announcements are mostly related to educational qualifications recognition, allowing Indian students to study at Deakin University - an international campus which is going to be set up in Gandhinagar at a valuation of USD 4 million, a new scholarship announcement and others which include trade ties between Australia and India. 

Australian PM’s Announcements on March 8, 2023 

The following major announcements were made on March 8, 2023, by Anthony Albanese in Ahmedabad which is indicative of strengthening educational, cultural and trade ties with India, read on for more details: 

  1. Students returning back from Australia with an Australian higher education degree will be recognised in India. 
  2. Indian qualifications will be acceptable in Australia too, students can become a part of the 500,000 Indian community in Australia. 
  3. Maitri Scholarship has been announced for Indian students pursuing a four-year degree in Australia. This scholarship will be the foundation of cultural and educational ties between India and Australia. 
  4. Setting up the Deakin University campus in India only to help students fulfil their dream of studying at an international university, but with the privilege of studying in their home country. 
  5. The free trade agreement between India and Australia has already begun by setting up the Deakin University campus in one of the central states of India, that is, Gujarat. 

This series of announcements by the Australian PM has left a positive impact on Indian students who are extremely inclined towards studying in Australia in the near future. Deakin Gift City Campus has been approved by the Indian Government and only 100 students will be enrolled initially per annum. For now, only two postgraduate courses have been approved to be offered at Deakin Gift City Campus.
