Master of Science in Transportation/Master of Science in Technology and Policy - Batch of 2024

Funded Masters at MIT with lots of events and activities.
Tips: Students should know that many MIT Masters programs, including TPP, are fully funded through RAships. You can apply to multiple MIT programs in the same application cycle, and you can also apply for a dual master's degree with other departments after you are admitted to an MIT program. The allowance is almost $45,000 per year, in addition to tuition and health coverage. This amount is sufficient to live in Boston and save some money.
Likes (Student Life): There are lots of fun activities to do in Boston. You can also learn how to sail for free. There are many clubs on campus that you can join for free. Boston is very bikeable so you can bike anywhere within the city. It's very pretty in the fall. People also regularly rent cars to hike in New Hampshire.
Dislikes (Part time work): You will be on a RAship so there is no need for part time for most MIT grad programs except Sloan ones. Taking on additional part-time activities might be restricted by your F1 visa. You won't need additional sources of income over RAship money and you won't have the time for it.

It has been an exceptional experience studying at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

To make a smooth transition, students should seek out supportive professors and peers. They should also prepare for cultural and academic adjustments, and join clubs and organizations to build connections. To apply for a scholarship, students should submit their academic transcripts and essays through the college's website. The scholarship allowance can help students focus on their academics and extracurricular activities.
Likes (Safety): I feel grateful to be part of such a supportive community. I have had extremely positive experiences in the city. The local community is friendly and welcoming, with many amenities and services available to support students. I have never felt threatened or unsafe while exploring the city. One notable experience was when I got lost in the city during my first week. A local resident approached me and offered to help me find my way back to campus. This kindness and generosity have stuck with me, and I feel grateful to be part of such a supportive community.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): While there are some job opportunities available, the process of securing a sponsor visa can be challenging and competitive. There are a limited number of companies that offer sponsor visas for international students, and the job roles and salary packages offered to international students vary depending on the industry, company, and job requirements. A company might offer a sponsor visa for a position in a specific field or industry, but the salary package for that position might not be as competitive as other positions that do not require a sponsor visa. Software engineer, data analyst, and IT consultant roles are common, with salary packages ranging from 60,000 to 100,000 dollars per year.

Best college with great academics and friendly faculty.
Tips: I would advise students to be well-prepared academically before joining this college. The classes are more research-oriented, so be ready to get your hands dirty. Also, be prepared to take classes from outside the university. Finally, always be ready to jump in and make yourself available in class. The academics at this college were diverse, and the teachers were very knowledgeable. The tutors were very friendly and helpful. I could approach them anytime, and they were always there for me. I would recommend this college to anyone. The student life was fantastic. I got a lot of learning opportunities and practical experience. Some of the greatest minds in the world work and study there. The research faculty was fabulous, and there was a lot of equipment and funding for experiments. There were a lot of clubs, too. Overall, I am satisfied with the experience.

Imperial College - A great college for international students.
Tips: There's a sizable Indian community here, so you will never feel alone, and the cultural shift will be very manageable. Everyone is really friendly and helpful too. I'm not sure how many scholarships there are for international students, apart from ones for exceptional performance in the admissions process. I am very satisfied with my course and university, and the country as a whole.
Likes (Indian Food): There's a shop very close to the South Kensington campus called Chaiwala, where you can find a lot of Indian food. The prices are a little bit high as this is London, but it's quite a nice quality. Most people have student accommodation at a place called North Action, where there are a lot more options for Indian food too.
Dislikes (Part time work): You can find lots of opportunities for part-time work, with the most common job being tutoring. Tutoring is probably the best job due to the flexibility and the pay available, but other jobs like being a waiter/waitress, bartender, or shop assistant are easily found. It is tough to balance work with studies, especially at Imperial, but it is certainly possible with dedication and discipline.

The reality of UK colleges and job market.
Tips: It's not just about my college, Imperial College London, which is no. 1 in the UK, but about joining any tier 1 college, may it be Oxford, Cambridge, LBS, etc. Students should know the following:
1) Your job hunt starts in the month of September for Fall intake students.
2) You would mostly be eligible for graduate jobs meant for MSc students, usually students with less than 4 years of experience.
3) Job hunting predominantly lies in your hands, while college could assist when explicitly asked for, however, you are pretty much on your own.
4) Aim to secure a job within 3 to 4 months of your joining the college. So, if your college starts in September, ideally, you could secure a full-time graduate job by October to November end.
5) Prepare well in advance for assessment tests for graduate jobs, you pretty much cannot avoid that. Maybe 1 in 50 jobs will not have a test, the rest do. Assessment tests could be psychometric, quants, qualitative, deductions, gaming simulation, etc.
Likes (Public transportation): London is known for its public transportation and it's not just hyped but it is actually well connected whether it's tube, bus, overground, train, tram, etc. The transport is reasonable, smooth and well connected even if you are living away from central London. Student passes also help with the overall transport.
Dislikes (Value for money): Tuition fees are higher for tier 1 colleges as well, and the chances of getting a better job are higher, however, your chances do not increase as much as your fees do. The average salary is 30,000 pounds per annum, which does not change just because your college is better.

Start your application as early as possible.
Tips: Consider expecting a cultural shift if you're moving abroad. Research course satisfaction, content and reviews beforehand. Expect a rigorous academic environment which expects a lot. Imperial College London is good but has room for improvement.
Tips: Before joining Imperial College London, students should know about the campus culture, academic expectations, and local living conditions. I didn't apply for any scholarships, but I think it would be helpful to search for them early and check university-specific options. While the academics are strong, some aspects like accommodation and support services could be improved. Overall, I am satisfied with the university, the course, and the country.
Likes (Public transportation): The public transportation system at Imperial College London is good. The campus is well connected with the rest of the city, and buses and tubes are the most commonly used modes of transportation. There are also cycling lanes and ride-hailing services available. The oyster and contactless payment systems make it very convenient to get around.
Dislikes (Safety): I encountered several issues that made me feel unsafe in the city. First, there was a lot of pickpocketing in popular areas. Second, I witnessed antisocial behaviour on the streets. Third, I felt unsafe travelling late at night on public transportation.
