University of Waterloo is great for STEM and the industry.
Tips: University of Waterloo with its coop programme is a very STEM and industry-oriented university. Many students through their coops will get work experience and skills that they then use to get full-time jobs and a lot do internships also offer students full-time offers if they do well. Overall the courses offered are useful and helpful, but the best part about the university is the coop programme.
Likes (Public transportation): So with your student card, you can use all the public transport in Waterloo for free. There is a bus system that connects very well all across the city to the university and is especially useful in the winter when it's hard to walk outside. There are also tunnels and indoor bridges that connect different campus buildings so it's easier to travel in the winter and there is also a tram that runs between big hubs.
Dislikes (Student Life): I put a 3 on student life because the University of Waterloo is very study-oriented. There is often a lot of work pressure and multiple things at once for students, so we don't get the chance to enjoy other aspects of university life, like events and going out.

The university provides a strong community spirit.
Tips: If you are creative and keen on embarking on research, this is a good place to consider. I do feel that it is extremely expensive and although placements were usually pretty good, it's no longer the same because of how strict the policies have become and how difficult it is to immigrate anywhere.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Getting any kind of long-term employment opportunity especially as an Indian is going to be a very tricky and unlikely task. They have become extremely particular and your chances of moving here to immigrate are slim to none. It is better to plan an alternative instead.

Great experience, the curriculum is good and the faculty is really helpful.
Tips: The University of Waterloo has got to be one of the best experiences I've had so far. You are certain to find people you gel with but it is important to remember that academically, courses are quite hard to keep up with. Also before you commit, you must remember that Canada has become very firm with immigration. The public transportation is flexible and affordable so you can explore the city. Overall, I am satisfied with my experience.

Got to explore my potential and grow as a person.
Tips: Students should know that the people are polite and welcoming so you don't need to worry about feeling too out of place. You will be expected to prepare well for your classes to keep up with your coursework. Finding jobs is a big challenge and I feel it has become extremely expensive to survive here so if you can avoid Canada then you should consider that option.
Dislikes (Internships): You are going to have a hard time finding internships here since the college doesn't actively provide internships for students, you are left to your own devices which becomes even harder as we are international students and our options become limited.

University of Waterloo taught me hard work and resilience.
Tips: It is a warm and welcoming campus at least in my case. I chose this university because of its reputation but now I feel that it is a better idea to study outside Canada itself. Quality of learning is great and you will be expected to work very hard from the first week itself. The faculty will help you in every step towards your journey.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Canada has become increasingly strict when it comes to immigration and allowing foreigners especially Indians to settled in which is why there are very little chances to get a well paid job here at least right now. I am pretty grateful to be here as well.

Tips: University of Waterloo is known for its research and famous alumni which is a plus point if you are interested in academia. I would suggest that you reside on or near campus else the commute can take forever. Moreover, you can expect a lot of competitiveness even though the campus is very friendly and welcoming overall.

Tips: If you're someone who is innovative and curious, the University of Waterloo will allow you to have room for further developing your potential such as through their programme called Velocity where the primary purpose was of building start-ups and entrepreneurship. This is for passionate learners to research and work on building new and awesome things.
Tips: In terms of pursuing a Masters, University of Waterloo has a very good research focused programme where you can dedicate your time to research. This was one of the biggest factors in my choosing to go to UWaterloo over other US colleges I had fully funded offers from. Talking of which you should have a look at the scholarships you can avail for Masters, at Waterloo, at least for CS programs, you can find a scholarship that can cover your tuition and expenses and leave you with a bit extra to save as well. I would say in terms of graduation school your experience would vary based on your supervisors and you should get in touch with past students of the professor you want to work with so you get a better idea of the expectations and opportunities. Just 2 semesters in I have been exposed to so many different things which have only helped me reaffirm my decision to pursue Master at UWaterloo. There are no wrong choices in terms of the school, it's honestly the people that matter and what you make of the opportunities provided to you!
Likes (Indian Food): There are Indian stores all around Ontario, you wouldn't have difficulty finding desi ingredients for cooking or lack of Indian food for takeout though it might be pricier than you expect. To be honest there is every kind of cuisine around the campus due to the large number of international students.
Dislikes (Part time work): I am writing this at a point the job market isn't great and I see some of my friends struggling to land a good job that makes most of their skills. I haven't had issues finding part-time work in the realm of AI and also there are a lot of opportunities your supervisors can expose you to.

University of Waterloo: Balancing academics, culture, and opportunity!
Tips: Before joining UWaterloo, prospective students should be prepared for a rigorous academic environment and consider the opportunities that the wonderfully built co-op programme provides for gaining real-world experience. Transitioning here, I did experience some cultural shifts, but the diverse campus community made it easier for me to adapt. I was fortunate to secure scholarships, primarily based on academic merit, which somewhat ease my financial burden. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with my university, the CS degree, and the opportunities this country has provided for personal and academic growth.
Likes (Indian Food): I would rate Indian food options as a 5 as rich and diverse flavours are abundant. Local Indian restaurants around campus offer a range of authentic and fusion Indian, as well as Chinese and Korean dishes, appropriately priced. While I enjoy dining out for socialising, Indian tiffin services off-campus provides a convenient and budget-friendly taste of home.
Dislikes (Student Life): My student life at UWaterloo has been demanding with occasionally heavy workloads. To offset that, I would very highly regard the diversity, co-op opportunities, and variety of student clubs, but finding a balance with academic commitments, especially pursuing a STEM degree can be challenging at times, though very doable with appropriate planning.

Multiple work opportunities are present at University of Waterloo
Tips: Try to do as many co-ops as you can. The university offers great work opportunities. Each department offers specific scholarships, so do apply within the deadline. My course is extremely competitive, but highly rewarding in the later stages. UofWaterloo teaches you to manage various aspects of life together.
Likes (Indian Food): Waterloo is a student-led community, majority population belongs to either undergrads or graduate students. Hence, the university organizations like WUSA, GSA, IPC organize events throughout the semester. UofWaterloo also has country-specific organizations like uwindia - they organize Indian theme parties, and festivals.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The faculty members are highly qualified and experienced. Each professor has a different methodology of teaching. Usually 800-level courses, professors are moderators and evaluators of student presentations, while 100-600-level courses, they are instructors.

Great learning environment
Tips: Moving to a different country is a process, appreciate and give process some time, you will do well. There are a lot of scholarships, bursaries and part-time jobs available on campus, which will help with monthly expenses and sometimes even managing fees.
Likes (Student Life): Graduate House organizes events regularly that will help you indulge socially. There are also several extracurricular clubs that one can join. Graduate House also organizes a cool Diwali night each year, so people don't get homesick. Moreover, there are lots of intra-college sporting competitions.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Eating outside is expensive in Waterloo, so usually all students prefer cooking at home, this would sum up to be around 300 CAD amount of groceries. There are also tiffin services that are about 200 CAD available for students who don't prefer cooking.

University of Waterloo is a great place to study
Tips: The University of Waterloo is indeed a great place to study for someone passionate about expanding their knowledge as well as network. Based on my experience and things I heard, there are trends to zero chances of getting a scholarship for the MEng ECE programme. The programme is a little bit expensive but if you are privileged enough to spend that much without having financial pressure then it is worth it. If you are enthusiastic about the field you are pursuing and love learning new things, this might be the right place for you.
Likes (Safety): In the Kitchener/Waterloo region, I feel a majority of the population are students. And people are genuinely nice with helping nature as well as the public transport system is also good to some extent. So there is less safety concern compared to other cities in Canada/US.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Being a vegetarian who doesn't even eat eggs, it is quite difficult to eat outside because there are very less options available in most restaurants regardless of some Indian food chain. But it would be costly. So it is better to cook at home and maintain a healthy diet.

The wonderful opportunities resulting from the grind at UWaterloo (CS/Math + Engineering Only)
Tips: Scholarships are rare to come by, even if you get a scholarship, it is unlikely to cover much of the overall expenses. You might get consumed by the competitive environment and therefore inevitably become part of a rat race. Don't do that, you need to know what you care about and focus on those objectives and fulfil your own goals. UWaterloo is a grind, but it is worth it, and the main thing is you feel good about yourself at the end of the day, and finding that fulfilment from within yourself is what truly makes you happy. Note - Living in a different country is a painful process, just be mentally prepared for the cultural shift, for me, no matter what, I will always return to India and I miss home a lot, I just have to deal with it.
Likes (Internships): This is the main reason to come to UWaterloo - The co-op (internship) opportunities. By the time you graduate, you will have completed 4-6 internships which sets you up to work in big teach if you wish. The top programs at the University include - Computer Science (1 in Canada, the biggest feeder to Silicon Valley as students have 2 years of work ex by the time they graduate), Engineering (Any Engineering), Math (Any faculty of math programs), AFM (Accounting and Financial Management).
Dislikes (Safety): There are reports of stabbings every now and then, especially recently when there was an attempted stabbing on campus. Usually a very safe city but it doesn't mean that you should not be cautious. Rated 2 simply because of recent incidents, but nothing bad has happened in the last 4 months.

Easily approachable management and faculty. Studying in university has it's perks.
Tips: I didn't feel much of a cultural shift when I arrived at York University, perhaps because so many of the students are from India. I didn't receive a scholarship, and I don't know how to apply for one. But if you have a good academic record in your home country, you can contact the college by email and they will respond. I am generally satisfied with the university, but I am not happy with the course content. I expected a lot more than they delivered. The country is decent, but there is some racism. Immigrants from India have achieved a lot here, but a few of them are spoiling the culture by breaking certain laws.
Likes (Indian Food): I haven't eaten a lot outside, but I have been to a few Indian restaurants or cafes. The food options are great, and the taste is too. However, don't compare the prices with Indian currency, or you won't choose the dish because the prices are set according to Canadian standards, not Indian. I prefer eating homemade food.
Dislikes (Part time work): On-campus part-time jobs are quite limited and hard to get if you don't have any strong references or connections with someone already working. Off-campus opportunities also require good networking skills and strong references but off-campus is easier to apply for the role.

York University experience - Pros and cons.
Tips: If you're considering attending York University, you should know that you'll get some great perks after you enroll, including free LinkedIn and Microsoft subscriptions. To get the most out of your time at York, try to network with other students and join events and seminars. You'll also want to interact with your professors, as they can guide you in the right direction.
Likes (Safety): The campus is safe and secure, and you can walk around at night without being bothered. The security system is good, and there's an app that can help you in case of an emergency. The library is open until midnight, so you can study safely there as well.
Dislikes (Internships): I'm finding it difficult to find an internship. The job market is down, and the college doesn't provide any guidance. If you're considering coming here, do your research first. You'll need to find your own connections and resources.

Tips: First of all it is great university for further studies. Prepare yourself before joining the college. Do research on college and its records. Also, look at expenses from start to end. Grab scholarships and get some help from admitted students so that you won't face problems there.
Likes (Safety): The student life at York University is great. First of all the diverse campus will make you comfortable. There are many cultural events which will not let you feel homesick. There are many cultural and literary clubs. Sports are the main attraction. Games are held every month. I have been experiencing a great student life.
Dislikes (Public transportation): The faculty of York university is so good. You will see diversity. Some Indian faculty will be teaching you. Our department's faculty is great. They are so frank and helpful. You won't get doubts and the teachers are so motivated that will guide you on the right way to do things in a different country. It's an amazing college and it focuses on each student the way it is meant to be.
Tips: There was a bit cultural shift when I moved from India to Canada. Canada is known for its multi-cultural diversity and with this different cultures bring in a different form of living style and their own festivals. The good thing is we have all kinds of food available here.
Likes (Post study jobs): Many companies offer work visas. Accountant roles have been offered to students with a salary of $70,000 CAD. Most companies give you the position of supervisor or Project manager because both of the position comes under NOC-B jobs, so it'll be helpful for the student to get his Permanent Residence.
Dislikes (Safety): The parking space is small. We have safety workshops for women on self-defence. Counselling and support services. Escort services for physically disabled students and they have their own choice of schedule which helps them to cope with studies the way they want.

Cool campus life and good support service.
Tips: Its very important for students to research the colleges programs, faculty, facilities, and campus life. Understanding the admission requirements and available resources can help make an informed decision. I don't personally avail scholarships but through academic achievements, extracurricular activities, or specific criteria set by the college. Allowances vary widely based on the scholarship and the institution. I don't have personal feelings but student satisfaction can depend on factors like the quality of education which is good here, support services which are also very good they respond very fast, and campus life which is very cool here. Searching reviews and talking to current students can provide insights into satisfaction levels.
Likes (Public transportation): We can commute easily there. TTC is a good way to commute. There is subways as well as bus service near the campus.
If we look at other cities like Brampton, the bus service there is not so good and it will take too much time to commute from there to York University.
Dislikes (Value for money): Too much fees for international students and if we look the fee structure of domestic students. It's approximately 3 times less. Like we only have to go to 2 or 3 days to the school for 3-hour classes each day and I think its too much fee for the same.

The York experience was satisfactory but in terms of academics, they could do better.
Tips: You can check credit transfers options which might save you a few dollars. You should also verify accommodation before paying the lease money. Try to utilise the facilities provided by your school, like library, etc. My cohort was not very diversified which is something I was disappointed from.
Likes (Safety): The university area is safe and secure. There is policing on subways as well. Downtown Toronto is generally a shady place, you do find homeless and intoxicated people around the subway station who do misbehave at times. I have also seen people getting robbed in front of me, so just carry pepper spray, be alert and smart.
Dislikes (Value for money): I feel that the tuition fees is expensive in terms of the quality of education provided. However, if you see the standard tuition rates of fellow colleges in Canada, Toronto, one wouldn't say that it's expensive. My classes were online for the first semester due to which I couldn't avail the facilities offered by the university.

The university is so supportive and great to start your studies
Tips: There was some cultural shift when I came to a new country. I didn't get any scholarships for my course and the university doesn't offer any scholarships too. My university is good. The teachers and staff members give proper attention and are very serious in terms of academics.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): I would like to settle in this country for having a better future. However, if I got a better opportunity in my home country I would switch. If given a chance to settle here I would do it after getting a job opportunity as it will be preferable.
Dislikes (Internships): In my course, the coop is not much available but some are there. However, there are various sites where we can search for job opportunities like Indeed, Linkedln. But the problem is there is an immense number of competition in the market.

Great university to explore
Tips: The university is great and you have to explore on your own. There are many social events for international students which you can attend and get to know more people. And the campus is so huge that you can explore there are gyms, indoor sports, a cafeteria and much more.
Likes (Public transportation): It is very convenient to travel via bus as well as subway as it has a stop right on the campus. There is a subway station inside the campus and also several bus stops on the campus itself. Also there are on-campus university shuttles which can pick up and drop you off anywhere on the campus for free.
Dislikes (Internships): My course doesn't have any internship and co-op opportunities so that's why I don't have any opinion about it. If you come here for your bachelor's degree then you'll have many opportunities to work on campus and get experience.

This is a whole new experience here. You will have your lows but just trust the process.
Tips: This is a place that has people from all around the world. And you have to be mindful of their customs because sometimes people judge the way you think about other communities. Also, it's a good opportunity for anybody who gets an offer letter from this university. They should go for it to have an easy and balanced academic as well as professional life.
Likes (Quality of faculty): York university is one the best universities of Canada. I was told in India that university is difficult to deal with but in reality, it's the opposite. It has flexible hours and schedules. Not to forget about assignments that are not burden here.
Dislikes (Safety): Sometimes people hit and stab you and being an international student, you can't even keep spray pepper or any kind of weapon with you for your safety. That's kind of absurd. And, TTC I. e. Toronto transit is not safe anymore. Strange people also travel from TTC specially subways.

Smart effort changes your approach towards personal and professional life.
Tips: The student must know the study pattern difference and lifestyle differences. The students here not only study and prepare for exams but also work in part time areas for earning their livelihood, pay their college fees and learn skills of financial management which are not generally learnt at college level in Asian countries. Moreover, legal implications are very serious in Canada, the Canadian government really considers visa violations seriously so any wrongful act or indecent behaviour would directly amount to deportation and cancellation of visa. So the whole country gives you an amazing learning experience and matures your mind set for further hurdles you face while entering the job market.
Likes (Student Life): The student life is different from India, as the study pattern is more on conceptual clarity than learning the information. The university Keele campus is surrounded by various residential complexes with different types of residential spaces (York Appartments), coffee shops, food courts (York Lanes) having diversity in cuisines with that the campus provides outdoor and indoor co-curriculum activities and also wellness center (York Lions). The university itself provides not only strong community based support but also support related to ways of life in Canada and psychological consultations. So for education purpose, the University is best for experiencing graduate studies.
Dislikes (Internships): The university faculty has its career department which guides you with various internships opportunity available across a year. And the ways to prepare your application documents. The most important is the student needs to be proactive in understanding the methodology of application preparation and advocating about their areas of interest or past experience in certain parts of applications. Moreover, the application process has timelines so before your start, with course, you can communicate to seek information with the department or your instructor. So the Osgoode Hall Law School of York University is active in guiding you in your career considering you are willing to make efforts for the same.
