University of York is one of the best university for research.
Tips: Students should learn the basics, make use of the resources, and be extremely satisfied with the professors and course material. The transition was easy, and there was a diverse student body that provided many opportunities to interact and learn. However, I did not apply for a scholarship. Overall, I am quite content with my experiences here.
Likes (Post study jobs): There are more than 100+ companies in the UK that are relevant to the audio industry. On average, people can get paid anywhere from 25,000 to 50,000 per year. There is a variety of work available in the audio industry for potential candidates.
Dislikes (Internships): The University of York provides a lot of guidance to students on how to get internships. They have a career and placement cell that is extremely helpful when it comes to providing guidance on companies and other requirements.

Great campus life, amazing academics but dull UK job market.
Tips: Academics are rigorous but not stressful. It focuses on more independent study. Time management and self-discipline are crucial. York is a historically picturesque city but small compared to other cities like Birmingham and Manchester. It's great for students who enjoy a laidback atmosphere, as it gives easy access to nature and historically sits. The cost of living is on the higher side. You can find international stores to get desi stuff. UK academic culture stresses critical thinking and independent research, so that's one thing that was a bit different from India. For many the UK weather could be a challenge and sunlight hours also affect people. I did not avail of scholarships, but my friends did. You just have to write an essay or answer a few questions, and if you have done well, you can get a fee exception. I am very satisfied with my university and course. But the job market in the country is a bit of an issue.
Likes (Student Life): I would say exceptional student life. Lively campus and picturesque views. I mean, the campus is really beautiful. A short walk can cheer one up on your worst day. The university accommodation is fantastic. UoY provides an inclusive atmosphere. My day started with lectures and seminars followed by self-study in UoY's world-class library facility. Then I would go for free sports, where I made a lot of friends from different countries and backgrounds. The freshman week is the best time. You make really good connections and enjoy free food. The library is open till late hours and 24x7 during examinations. Various kinds of events are organized, and you can experience the Roses tournament as well. The variety of student-run societies like academic societies, sports clubs, and cultural and international societies allows each student to get involved. There are student discounts on food and gym subscriptions as well.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The job market exposure is limited. The university is known for excellent research, though, but it does not help that much to secure a job. But it can surely help the students who want to go into the research and development or academic path. The city is smaller than Manchester or Birmingham and has a reputation for tourism rather than industrial presence, which makes it difficult to get opportunities. But, in general, the whole UK job market is not in favour of immigrants. So, it's not just the university. Very few companies offer jobs to international students and even fewer offer sponsorship. Graduate roles are very hard to secure. It makes sense and a bit easier if one has work experience. Job roles offered: data analyst, software developer, consultant, process specialist. Salary packages range from GBP 25k to 35k.

A historical institution to build a better future for all people from all walks of life.
Tips: The transition to a new country is never simple but there is a lot of support for anyone that's looking for it. Before moving to York, it would be good to get in contact with coursemates and students you will be living with. In addition, spend time looking into societies you want to get involved in as early on in the year there will be plenty of taste sessions to go and participate in which will aid in socializing in a new environment. The university also has a buddy programme that would put you in touch with someone at the university who may have gone through the experience previously and guide you through an easy transition experience. Looking for part-time jobs is fairly easy as well, the university has its own platform, Handshake to look for opportunities. Indeed is a great widely used option as well.
Likes (Safety): Campus security maintains a very active presence on campus with routine patrols to ensure safety and is very helpful in medical emergencies as well. Other than campus security, York is generally a very safe city. It consistently ranks in the top 5 of the safest areas within the UK for student areas which means stepping out late at night can be stress-free for everyone.
Dislikes (Public transportation): York has a well established bus network that allows you to travel around the city comfortably with options to track bus timings. We also have an app as well. The train station in the city centre has great connectivity with direct trains to London taking about 2 hours.

Tips: The University of York is a research based Russell group university. University is located in York, a welcoming and peaceful city, with historical architecture. Apart from the city, campus itself is beautiful and has a lot of study space for individual as well as group study. Also, the university offers student assistance right from the application process to the move to York. Staff is accommodating and helps students to their best knowledge. University provides guidance to improve skills for academics and professional prospects as well as in managing living expenses. I received Chevening Scholarship funded by UK FCDO, in which 20% of the scholarship is funded by the university.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty at the University of York can be contacted via email or in-person. They are friendly and understand the demands of the diverse student community. Instead of traditional methods of providing classroom lectures, university employs a novel approach, they are a mix of lectures, seminars, practical, and also drop-in sessions for questions.
Dislikes (Public transportation): The University of York provides a free campus shuttle bus to students and faculty. Campus shuttle connects all of the major bus stop from West to east campus. Aside from the free campus shuttle, various paid public transmit options are available. The campus is well-connected to the main city, York City Centre is in 10 minutes walking distance from campus West.

My Experience with University of York
Tips: One of the most important changes that I have experienced is the change in the weather. The winters in York can get really cold so please be prepared to buy good quality winter wear that will last. The University has done a lot to make the transition smoother. There are a number of fresher week activities including college lunches and coffee meets where students can meet other international students as well as home students. There is also a lot of mental health support available at the university which are easily available to all. There is a visa office that helps with any queries regarding your visa or stay. The curriculum is different from what it is in India and there is a dedicated academic skills hub for helping students ease into the university curriculum. York itself is a beautiful city, especially for history buffs like myself. The university campus is serene and green and there is plenty of study space. Overall I am satisfied with the University campus and its curriculum.
Likes (Part time work): There are a number of on campus part time work available like International ambassadors, academic representatives etc. In addition, there are a number of shops and cafes like Nisa and Greggs within the campus which can offer possible employability. York is a relatively small and historic city with enough part-time jobs available. Update the resume and use indeed and LinkedIn to do the applications. The minimum wage is 10 pounds and since there is a 20-hour work limit per week, it is possible to effectively manage academics and work.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are a number of Indian restaurants in the City Centre but they are a bit expensive. The groceries however are pretty affordable. It's highly recommended to cook for yourself during the initial months until you're settled in. Indian groceries are available in shops like Morrisons and Makkah which are about 30 minutes away from the University.

Tips: York is a good university but primarily depends on your course. However, the Computer Science department is very good. I didn't get any scholarship, but a couple of people whom I know got it, which means yes, scholarships are being offered in my course. When I joined, the fee was 24000 Rs. But now it's around 27K. Moreover, the campus is really good it's like having your own city. I lived in Annelister College, and the accommodation was around 8k when I joined. It was a well-balanced shift in a good way.

Check for scholarships before you start your course.
Tips: Scholarship details should be checked before coming because a lot of people tend to miss the scholarship and end up paying a lot more. Part time needs to be applied really quickly because the number of students completing for part time is a lot which can leave you jobless while studying.
Likes (Safety): It feels safe to walk around the city at any time of the day and night. Everyone respects one another. I have walked all around the city on a cold winter night while never facing issues from anyone. Did not even see anyone else have any safety issues.

Tips: I received the Be Exceptional scholarship of 37500. I would advise you to apply for the scholarships well in advance. Overall I'm very satisfied with the course, university, and country. I would also suggest being a part of social clubs and societies as they always have something going on.
Likes (Post study jobs): A plethora of events are organized by the university including bar crawls, social, game nights, karaoke, etc. I absolutely love socializing with people and I never miss an opportunity to take part in social events. Additionally, the campus is also very beautiful.
Dislikes (Value for money): I believe the faculty at the University of York is top-notch. They are extremely friendly, approachable, and supportive and have always helped me throughout the course. Being a part of the Biology department I spend most of my time in the labs. The labs are exceptional with all the facilities.

Stepping out of your comfort zone and living the world that lies beyond your constricted boundaries
Tips: The cultural shift is very evident and yet it is not overwhelming or unmanageable. Staying true to yourself and being open-minded and accepting takes you a long way.
There are University competitive scholarships available. However, I was unsuccessful in attaining one.
I am very happy with the choice of the University I made. It has far exceeded my expectations in every manner.
Likes (Value for money): The study curriculum is designed very thoughtfully and imparted very practically. The professors are very friendly and easily approachable. You can not only discuss with them the academic difficulties that you might be facing but also any personal challenges that you will encounter. They are always more than happy to be of assistance.
Dislikes (Internships): Finding an internship is your own task and it is very difficult to manage an internship and your studies. The internship almost always requires more working hours than you are allowed. The professors and the academic supervisors don’t even suggest a part-time job as it is considered very time consuming.

One of the safest and best university in UK
Tips: Look and research thoroughly about your course and also about the city. If you are more interested in party rich and more lively city life then this is not the city as there is not much of a young population. Also one should look into the availability of cheap options for rent.
Likes (Safety): York as a city is one of the safest city in UK. Also this particular university has very low or no racism and has a good amount of cultural diversity between students. Also as there is not much young crowd in York so there is not much crime happening in the city.
Dislikes (Internships): Less internship options are available for my field of study. Also as York is not a big city so there are obviously fewer options available but the university should focus more on providing internship opportunities and should organise more workshops and awareness events.

Tips: I would ask students to just join the university and then it would be easy once you are here. However, think about the course that best suits you or else it would be a waste. Life is good here, you would be having a lot of fun parties, night outs and get together etc.

My 3 years in York studying Psychology at the University of York were the best!
Tips: I got an EU bursary (that was before the UK exited the EU) to help with my accommodation costs. The transition to a new university in a new country was very easy personally, I made friends and the academic environment was really welcoming to everyone. I was really satisfied overall.
Likes (Indian Food): There were many restaurants from all around the world, namely American, British, French Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Turkish, Italian, Spanish, Middle Eastern, Greek and more in such a small city. Pricing varied from affordable everyday food to very expensive quality restaurants, so there is something for everyone! I personally prefer cooking myself, but whenever I ate out I was never disappointed.
Dislikes (Public transportation): The campus is on the outskirts of the city centre, meaning a 45' walk or 30' bus ride or 10' taxi ride. During my time in university, the buses on which all students relied for their daily transport across campuses and the city centre were beyond disappointing. They were constantly full, late, some times did not stop to pick up passengers even if there were available seats on the bus. We raised concerns about all of it but not much changed during my time there. I hope things have improved as I had to spend a lot of money on Ubers, since there is no other way of travelling around quickly and efficiently.

Tips: Students should know the subject modules of their courses. Because some of the courses have the least number of subject modules which will have an impact on in depth understanding of the main course. It's better to take on-campus accommodation to minimize the transportation cost as travelling inside the campus is free.
Likes (Student Life): Student life in York would be friendly. There will not be any discrimination. There are many sports activities, dance programs, societies, party events and so on. All facilities are available on campus. Students can enjoy and do their studies peacefully.
Dislikes (Value for money): This course offers a limited number of modules as compared to the other courses in the university. Though the extracurricular activities are many, the course modules are not enough for high tuition fees and it got increased for Sept 2023 intake.

They have set so high standards for even part-time jobs on campus. Managing academics and part-time at the same time is a bit hectic. The minimum payout is 10.42 for those who are above the age of 21. Overall, I'm satisfied with my university in every aspect.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Well-experienced faculty members from all over the world. They were easily accessible and ready to help at any time. Classes were conducted in seminar halls with a video recording option, so we can access them at any time after that throughout our lifetime.

The best experience for a student.
Tips: There definitely was a cultural shift for me. But nothing most people can't handle. It took me a while to learn certain things that India didn't teach us. I got a commonwealth scholarship of 2000 pounds. About the university, the infrastructure and technology blew my mind. It is the perfect place to study.
Likes (Safety): Birmingham is a very safe city. Even through the night it is mostly alive. One thing to keep in mind is to avoid the canals. In the year and a half that I lived there, I did not have any bad experience. As long as we don't go out of line, I'd say we will have no trouble.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): They have no placement drives like the ones we have in India. We have to look for jobs ourselves. Given that the UK is in a recession, it is very difficult to find jobs in the country. They prefer hiring a fresher who is from the UK or EU rather than someone for whom they would have to sponsor a visa.

In the UK, people tend to be more individuals and have fewer family links and social organisations. India's culture is more closer and conservative than Britain's. No, I did not avail of any scholarships, though advised to apply for them as quickly as possible. I am quite satisfied with the university, programme and country. Likes (Student Life): A typical day starts early in the morning, getting ready for either a lecture to attend or a sports session such as swimming, badminton, basketball, gym or tennis etc. Then after coming back, prepare food for lunch and evening, then study and go to sleep after some fun time with friends. The most enjoyable thing that I used to do in my college life was going to play sports and get myself involved in activities such as fitness and sports. There are diverse events organised by various societies under the Guild of Students, ranging from cultural fests to simple events on going on campus or student accommodation. I used to participate as maximum as possible if I had spare time to socialize and have fun in those events. Student clubs are there for all types of interests, academic programs, backgrounds, nationalities, religious beliefs, etc. Such as business societies, photography, gaming, Hindu, Islamic, and Sikh societies, International Students Club, volunteering and UNICEF communities, dance clubs, etc.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The only opportunities for students available on campus are Career Fair, where recruiters and companies visit campus and interact with the students directly. Very few sponsor visas, for the rest, students have to take up graduate visa route on their own. Most of the roles are for freshers such as graduate scheme roles, graduate management or trainee, financial auditor, etc. The starting average annual salary is 30,000 pounds.

Tips: When you're looking for scholarships, it's important to look at the job market in the field you're interested in. If you can get a university-sponsored internship, that would be a great opportunity to gain experience and get paid. Birmingham is a city with multiple universities and a big crowd of students, so it can be difficult to find part-time work, on or off campus. However, if you do land a part-time job, the pay is the minimum wage, which is not bad. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my experiences here.

The faculty is very friendly and the classes are very interactive and engaging.
Tips: I have grown as a person, become more independent, and more mature since entering university. There were some cultural shocks and differences, but mostly how kind and accepting most people were. That feels like the norm now. I did not receive any scholarships, but I am very satisfied with my university experience.
Likes (Safety): I have a very active social life at the University of Birmingham. I spend my time studying, attending class, and working out at the gym. If I have any energy left, I like to go out with friends. There are many social events on campus that I can attend. The student body is very diverse, and everyone is kind and accepting of everyone else. The staff is very helpful and always there to support and talk to new students.
Dislikes (Student Life): The staff at the University of Birmingham are very kind and helpful. The university is incredibly inclusive and diverse, and the staff is very attentive to everyone's problems. The faculty does its best to offer fruitful solutions and help students and staff in the best way they can. The staff is very diverse and well spread out.

Tips: Coming to study at the University of Birmingham is a good place to get accustomed to changes in your lifestyle. The university is very welcoming, and there are quite a few scholarships that you can apply for on a merit basis. I have not applied for Permanent Settlement in the country, but I would consider staying here if I could. The University makes you aware of many opportunities that could help you transition into settling down here. Overall, I am very satisfied with the University.
Likes (Part time work): The University of Birmingham provides several opportunities for part-time and casual work. You can manage both academics and part-time work, but off-campus opportunities may require more time and effort. You get paid on an hourly basis, at an average rate of 11 per hour.

Tips: As for the University of Birmingham, it is a great university that prepares you well for the world where you are no longer a kid who only has to worry about grades. Coming here has taught me to be independent financially and mentally. The campus is very diverse which lets me immerse in different cultural experiences. The student union is always there to support you from safety to mental well-being. The University also celebrates every cultural festival from Diwali to Ramadan, which never gives you the feeling of a home away from home. I did secure an academic scholarship for my course which is funded by the university themselves. Although the cost of living is quite high at the moment. But other than that, this is an amazing opportunity for me where I get to do a course I love at an exceptional Russel group university at the heart of Birmingham that offers all the support and advice.
Likes (Internships): The University has a huge careers network, with each college having its own. They provide excellent one-to-one advice on getting work experience, internships, volunteering, full-time jobs, etc. They also provide several other services like mock interviews that prepare you for the real challenge in the application process. For students with zero or very limited experience, the University offers a programme called B-Experienced, through which internships provided by companies offer special spots for students from the University of Birmingham. Hence when it comes to work experience and career in general, the University of Birmingham is a great choice.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The current UK government has tightened immigration policies, which might make permanent immigration options a bit harder. Also, if you secure a good job in a company that is ready to sponsor you, then that's great. However, most postgraduate students struggle with this aspect.

University of Birmingham does not provide any internship for international students.
Tips: It is always better to connect with multiple people and faculty members to know what's going on near you and what opportunities exist for the future. I also think joining societies is a great option to keep the stream off while enjoying your university experience. Public transportation in Birmingham is good. It connects the whole city and buses are frequent. However, buses may be delayed due to various reasons, which can be a problem for students commuting to lectures or work during peak hours. I suggest checking the routes and buses beforehand so that you know the average commute time.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I was an international student at the University of Birmingham. I found that there were no jobs at all for international students. I faced extreme competition in finding jobs, and the university didn't provide any guidance or help with these issues. This made the situation worse than it might have been otherwise.

University of Birmingham has a beautiful and huge campus.
Tips: The campus is beautiful and there are a lot of activities to do, so you won't feel bored during your initial couple of weeks. After that you get busy with assignments and academics, so you'll spend most of the time going back and forth from the lectures to your accommodation, and part-time work. Like in India, there's not much pressure on studies, which can either be a good or a bad thing. I'm happy with the fact that the university is well-recognised and gives students career guidance. The current job market is tough in the UK to get a job, so only time will tell whether it's worth it or not.
Likes (Safety): Safety can be a matter of different experiences for different people. I never had safety concerns even when walking down the street late at night. Of course, you need to be a bit cautious of your surroundings. The campus does provide an app, and some safety gadgets during the welcome week, as well as a free bus to Sell Oak to travel when it gets dark during winter.
Dislikes (Public transportation): You can travel by train or bus. Buses are usually more connected than trains but are generally late, and it doesn't matter if you check the scheduled time on Google Maps or bus stop, they will make you wait for 15-20 minutes 90% of the time. I also don't think public transport is very affordable. It's 2 pounds for a ticket whether you want to get off at the Next bus stop or after the 15 bus stop. A monthly bus pass is now 49 pounds for students, but they keep increasing the price every year. Last year it was 46 pounds.

Tips: It was not much of a transition apart from the weather and the teaching style. I did not avail of any scholarship. However I have question myself several times as to why I chose this course. The lecturers could have a better way to teach than the way they did. There are on-campus events held for students to interact and build connections. An amazing experience that needs a closure.
Tips: Students should be open to everything the university has to offer. Embrace the life that comes along with it. It's simple but effective in the long run, and you won't regret it later on. Of course, there will always be things you couldn't be a part of, but that's okay. Cherish the rest of your time there, and you'll look back and cherish it all for sure. I'm pretty satisfied with my time at University College Dublin.
Likes (Part time work): They've got a pretty good system for roles within the university and I'm a recipient of them. If going through the right channel and succeed in your interviews/assessment centres, the opportunities within the university are crazy for part-time. It is quite manageable with your coursework given the fact that you have good time management skills. The average payout is 12/hour.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): It's pretty fragile and extremely difficult to obtain sponsorship after the course commences and the Graduate visa is granted. I wouldn't likely want to permanently immigrate here as I've got other preference in life and this country doesn't fulfil them all.

Navigating growth, challenges, and opportunity in university life.
Tips: Before starting university, make sure you're comfortable with basic household tasks like cooking and cleaning. Students spend a lot of time studying, and learning these skills ahead of time can save you considerable time and help you keep up with the assignments, attend classes, and still enjoy university life. Birmingham is a fantastic city with access to nearly everything you might need, from Indian utensils and spices to food and there's almost nothing you won't find. However, if your mood is affected by the weather, be prepared for long stretches of gray, rainy days, with little sunlight for 6-7 months. The climate can be challenging, so building emotional resilience is helpful as well.
Likes (Public transportation): Buses are very frequent and you can get a bus in 5-10 minutes. The university has also its own bus service which is run for specific routes every day. The university has an integrity rail on the campus which also connects to the major and minor stations of the city.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): All the big 4 and MBB companies visited the university for the job fairs and offered internships and advice for the proper route for full-time jobs and with several on-campus activities to polish your soft and hard skills. The starting salary of a Business analyst with no or little experience at all is 338500 to 346000.

Tips: Living in the first year with flatmates of many backgrounds was interesting however there was not a huge cultural shift. There is a requirement to stay social which can be achieved by joining clubs and societies- sports are highly appreciated. The University Campus is a mixture of historical and modern, almost a reflection of the country. There is a large level of diversity with people from all walks of life. Especially in the course lectures where almost everyone comes from somewhere different.
Likes (Internships): The internship process has been made very simple here at the University. There have been resources provided such as for writing the CV or preparing for an interview. The status of the University is also strong enough that it creates a small advantage over some of the other applicants.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I am still studying at the University and therefore do not have a strong idea as to how helpful they are in assisting for long-term jobs. However, they do provide resources that can aid in CV writing and interview practice which will help when applying for such jobs.

It was a good experience with great faculty.
Tips: There was definitely a cultural shift. The people, food, and traditions are definitely different here and it will take some time to get used to all the changes but it is manageable. It can be overwhelming at times. For data science, since it's a demanding course they do not provide any kind of scholarship so that's a sad thing.
Likes (Indian Food): There are a crazy amount of restaurants and cuisines for all kinds of people and cultures. The prices are alright but some of the restaurants do offer students discounts so that is a good thing. The food is good and you basically have millions of options to choose from.
Dislikes (Value for money): I really liked the campus and the facilities were good. I would recommend trying to get a job at the university as it is definitely beneficial. The university shares a lot of resources so there is no need to invest in any kind of personal resources. There are lots of career fairs and opportunities but it's difficult for international students to get a decent full-time job.

My Great College Experience.
Tips: I got the opportunity to connect with a lot of students and made some great friends. I also had the opportunity to do an internship and gain some valuable experience in the UK market. The university has a lot of cultural societies that put on a variety of events, so there's always something to do. The university also offers scholarships for international students, which is a big help. I stood for the selection in my university and won that with a good number of votes and currently, I am working with the University as an Activities and Employability Officer. I'm very happy with my university experience and would highly recommend it to anyone considering studying abroad.
Likes (Internships): The University of Birmingham provides a lot of guidance and opportunities for students. The university has partnered with many startup companies to offer internships. These internships are called B-Experienced Internships, and they offer a variety of roles to appeal to a wide range of students. The internships last for 20 days, which students can complete in two to three months while they are studying. Students who complete these internships can earn up to 1600 Pounds.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The University of Birmingham has lots of career fairs for specific fields and also some of them provide visa-sponsored jobs. The university also provides some visa sponsor jobs to international students. There are various job roles like Business Development Manager, Communication and Marketing roles and supply chain management roles and students expect their starting package from 24000 to 35000 Pounds.
