The selected candidates get an annual stipend between $30,000-$46,000, along with summer internships and experienced mentors.

SMART Scholarship In US Covers Full Tuition For STEM Students

Study in US: The Department of Defense (DoD) in the US offers SMART scholarships to STEM students. The students gets a full scholarship so that they can focus on the complex research without being financially burdened.

There are two scholarships under the SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program including Ronald V. Dellums Memorial SMART Scholarship and SMART scholarship.

The SMART scholarship is for students who are currently enrolled in university or college and Dellums SMART Scholarship is for high school and other applicants who do not have college transcripts.

"Recipients of either scholarship receive full tuition, annual stipends, health and book allowances, mentorship, and conduct internships at a DoD facility. The first step to a rewarding civilian career with the DoD is reviewing the eligibility requirements for both opportunities, starting with the 24 SMART STEM disciplines. These disciplines are general disciplines – specific majors or fields of study may fall under one or more disciplines on this list. All applicants should be pursuing a degree in one of SMART’s 24 STEM disciplines," reads the official statement.

Eligibility Criteria For SMART, Dellums Memorial Scholarship

The following are the eligibility criteria for the SMART scholarship:

  • The scholarship is open to citizens of Australia, the United States, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom.
  • The applicants should be 18 years of age or older by January 1, 2026.
  • They should have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • The applicants should either be planning to pursue a degree in a SMART STEM discipline in fall 2025 or already pursuing such a degree.
  • Degree funding will commence in August 2025, and be requesting between one to five years of degree funding.
  • The students must complete summer internships.
  • They should as civilian employees of the Department of Defense accept a one-for-one post-graduation service commitment.

The SMART Scholarship Program offers two scholarship opportunities, the SMART Scholarship and the Ronald V. Dellums Memorial SMART Scholarship (Dellums SMART Scholarship)," added the official statement.
