Study in UK: Applications open for The Rhodes Scholarship; Indian students can apply by 01 August 2024

The Rhodes Scholarship application process has multiple stages. It gives an excellent opportunity to outstanding young people to pursue postgraduate study at the University of Oxford. The Rhodes Scholarships for India applications opened on 3 June 2024 and the last date to apply for the scholarship is 01 August 2024.

Rhodes Scholarship is a fully funded, full-time, postgraduate award which aids outstanding students in pursuing postgraduate degrees at the University of Oxford. It not only covers the fees but also provides stipends to the students. For the 2023/24 academic year, the stipend is £19,092 per annum (£1,591 per month) from which Scholars pay all living expenses, including accommodation.

The applicants should have or about to complete an undergraduate degree and meet the entry requirements of the chosen full-time course at the University of Oxford.

Selection Criteria for Rhodes Scholarship

The following are the selection criteria for the scholarship:

• Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship
• Literary and scholastic attainments (academic excellence)
• Moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one's fellow beings.
• Energy to use one's talents to the full (as demonstrated by mastery in areas such as sports, music, debate, dance, theatre, and artistic pursuits, particularly where teamwork is involved)

"Please note that all applicants who do not speak English as a first language should check that they will be able to meet Oxford University’s higher-level language requirements when applying to Oxford. You can find out more about these here: http://www.graduate.ox.ac.uk/englishproficiency," reads the official statement.

Also, getting a Rhodes Scholarship does not guarantee your admission to Oxford University. Those who are selected for the scholarship need to apply to the University of Oxford very soon after selection and the team at Rhodes House will be on hand to support the selected candidate with the application process. Those who are currently pursuing postgraduate courses at Oxford can also apply for the Rhodes Scholarship, however, they may apply to start a new course at Oxford.

" If you are already on a postgraduate course at Oxford you cannot apply for Rhodes to cover the final year(s) of your current course," said the official statement.
