Technical University of Munich to charge tuition fees from international students

Study in Germany: Technical University of Munich has made an important announcement about tuition fees. As per the latest updates, the university is going to charge tuition fees from students from non-EU countries.

Those who will newly enrol in a degree program at the Technical University of Munich from non-EU countries for the winter semester of 2024/25 will be charged a tuition fee.

The university said that the main reason behind charging the tuition fees is that every year many international students come to TUM to get a world-class education, and to match up to their expectations, the university should have top-notch equipment, infrastructure, management, study areas and support for students.

"In order to enable international students from third countries who are not part of this education system to study at TUM, we charge fees for international students from third countries. These fees benefit all students by ensuring sustainable and excellent study and learning conditions," reads the official statement.

For Bachelor's program, the tuition fee is 2,000 or 3,000 euros per semester and for Master's program, the tuition fee is 4,000 or 6,000 euros per semester. The payment deadline for the summer semester, first-time enrollment is March 15, and for winter semester, it is September 15, 2024. For continued enrollment, the payment deadline for the summer semester is February 15, and for the winter semester, it is August 15, 2024.

"Your transfer will appear in your TUMonline contribution account within approximately 5 business days. Your enrollment will not take place until payment has been received," says the official statement.

Also, various scholarship options are available at TUM, and with the tuition fee for international students, new waiver scholarships are being created for prospective and current students.

Exemption from tuition fees

The following students will be exempted from the tuition fees:

  • Those students who are already enrolled in a degree program at TUM before winter semester, they need not pay tuition fees in their current degree program.
  • Those who are citizens of all EEA countries (EU + Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), Germany or all countries with corresponding agreements.
