University of Manchester offers Equity and Merit Scholarships for International Students
The last to fill out the application for the University of Manchester's Equity and Merit Scholarships is 31 August 2024. The results will be announced in June 2025. The scholarship aims to empower young professionals to meet the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
Study in UK: The University of Manchester is accepting applications for Equity and Merit Scholarships from master's international students. The application form will be open from 1 August 2024 and the deadline to submit it is 31 August 2024.
The scholarship is for outstanding students who can make a significant contribution to achieving UN's Sustainable Development Goals in their home countries. It is intended for students from low-income families so that equal opportunities can be provided to all. The university has particularly asked women to apply and said that all applications will be considered on their merit.
There are two types of Equity and Merit Scholarships - full-time, on-campus master’s (one-year duration) and part-time and part-time, distance learning master’s (three to five years duration).
Under this scholarship, a total of 40 scholarships are available for a range of courses in environment, health sciences, engineering, education, textiles, development and law. Out of these 40 scholarships, 30 are for full-time programs and 10 are for online study. The scheme is open to applicants from Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi, and Zimbabwe.
The University of Manchester Equity and Merit Scholarships cover full-tuition fees and also return international airfares, visas and living expenses.
Eligibility Criteria
The following are the eligibility criteria for Equity and Merit Scholarships:
- The applicant should be a resident of Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, and Malawi. They should not have earlier studied outside of Africa.
- They must possess a minimum of two years of work experience related to the chosen field of study.
- Should have a bachelor's degree with excellent overall grades.
- They should have an understanding of how the course will benefit both their career and the wider community.
- Applicants should be committed to returning home and making a positive impact in their home country.
If one is eligible for the scholarship, they will be invited to fill out the academic application for the chosen field. The university has said that the students should not apply for the educational application until they are directed to do so.
"An offer of admission will be required before your application can be shortlisted. You will be provided with guidance on this when you are instructed to apply for admission. We will be in touch with every applicant to inform you of the outcome of your application by June 2025," reads the official statement.
