University of the Western Cape in South Africa offers Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
The last date to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is 30 August 2024. The university said that if any candidate does not hear from the university by 15 November 2024, they should know that their application is unsuccessful.
University of the Western Cape in South Africa has invited applications for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program for academic year 2025.
It is a global initiative to create highly talented, next generation transformative leaders and service-oriented young people. The program primarily focuses on the young Africans and it will help the students in developing their leadership skills and pursue their higher education simultaneously.
The program is trying to reach out to refugees, young women and young people living with disabilities, and forcibly displaced youth. It is specifically targeted towards young people with social and economic barriers.
For the undergraduate course, the fields of study include - Arts & Humanities (History, Linguistics, Sociology and Women’s and Gender Studies); Education (Mathematics and Science, Foundation Phase); Economic & Management Sciences (Economics, Information Sciences and Public Administration); and Natural Sciences (Biological, Computational, Mathematical and Physical Sciences).
Eligibility Criteria
The following are the eligibility criteria for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program:
- The applicant must be prepared to register for a full-time undergraduate study in January 2025.
- They should be more than 26 years of age for undergraduate studies.
- Applicants must meet the university's minimum admission requirements.
- They also need to submit proof that their higher studies are impeded by social and economic barriers.
How to apply
The students who are interested in applying for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program should first fill out an academic application for the academic year 2025. Only those applicants who have successfully submitted their academic application and have received the application number will be eligible to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
There are six main sections that need to be filled in the application form which include - Academic Information, Short Narratives, Personal Information, Family Information, Certification, and Community Engagement.
"The closing date for all applications is Friday, 30 August 2024. Due to the large volume of applications received, we are unable to give personalized feedback to applicants. If you do not hear from the university by Friday, 15 November 2024, please consider your application unsuccessful," reads the official notification.
