Given below is a list of the popular scholarships in Belgium for international students 2022. 

  • Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Scholarships: Students at the master’s level from all over the world can apply for this scholarship. Apart from this, a student must have a bachelor’s degree or be in his / her last year of bachelor’s studies and graduate before the master’s programme starts. Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Scholarships cover the cost of a student’s participation in the programme, travel, and a living allowance.
  • Ghent University Top-Up Grants: Ghent University offers top-up grants to students belonging to less developed countries who wish to obtain a master’s degree at Ghent University. It will be open for new students applying for a master’s or a master-after-master programme taught in English. For the academic year 2022-23, 10 scholarships can be awarded. The scholarship fee comprises an allowance of €1000 per month and all-in insurance (civil liability, health, repatriation). Note that the visa costs and airline tickets are not included in the grant.
  • Master Mind Scholarships: The Flemish Ministry of Education and Training awards scholarships for master’s programmes in Brussels and Flanders to outstanding students from around the world. In other words, International students who want to pursue a master’s degree programme at a Flemish higher education institution can apply for this scholarship. Apart from this, students must have a high standard of academic performance and good knowledge of the English language. Also, the student must be accepted by the host institution in order to receive the scholarship. For this scholarship, students from all nationalities can apply. There are certain other eligibility conditions that a student must meet in order to receive this scholarship. A Master Mind scholarship includes a grant of €8400 + a tuition fee waiver per academic year (60 ECTS). The holders of this scholarship only pay an administrative enrolment fee. This grant is paid in installments and covers accommodation costs, insurance, and a noteworthy amount of living expenses. 
  • Ghent University Special Research Fund – Doctoral Scholarships: Ghent University offers PhD “Sandwich” scholarships to deserving PhD students from developing countries who want to carry out half of their PhD research at Ghent University and half at a university in a developing country. India is also included in the list of developing countries. Ghent University only finances that part of the research that is carried out in Ghent (24 months). The applicant must have full-time funding for the other 24 months of research that has to be carried out.
  • Science@Leuven Scholarships: Talented and motivated international students who are interested in participating in an international master programme of the Faculty of Science of KU Leuven can apply for this scholarship. The scholarship amount will be up to 10.000 Euro for 1 year. Note that the scholarship amount shall cover the tuition fee for 1 year, the insurance, and basic health insurance coverage. The amount offered for living expenses can vary.
