• Applicants must have passed high school 
• Required high school courses: english, mathematics, laboratory science, social studeis, fine arts, foreign language
• Recipients of the Merit Award had an average SAT score of 1290 (ACT score of 29) and an average high school GPA of 4.3 and were in the top 20% of their high school class, on average
