Scholarship Overview

Asian Development Bank's Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) are offered at University of Auckland to those international students who are pursuing a Masters Degree. This is a Merit Based Scholarship, which is provided to only maximum number of students, depending on the University student. Asian Development Bank's Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) are valued at NZD 66525 for maximum number of students, depending on the University student who qualify from University of Auckland. Also, the Asian Development Bank's Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) is a one time tuition,living,travel_air_fare,health reducing scholarship, offered in the first year of Masters Degree only. Applications for Asian Development Bank's Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) at University of Auckland are filed separately. To be eligible for the award, applicants must have completed their Bachelor degree and passed the 12th grade. International students seeing to avail this scholarship need to appear for English proficiency tests like TOEFL, IELTS and PTE. For the purpose of receiving the scholarship, students must have job experience. Students will require the following documentation to apply for the scholarship: LOR, Essays and CV.

The eligibility of the students to qualify for Asian Development Bank's Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) would solely depend on the applicant’s admission to University of Auckland Masters Degree, his/her aptitude for an overall contribution towards University of Auckland community and of course the academic achievements.

The scholarship covers:

• Tuition fees at the University of Auckland
• Airfare from the scholar's home country to Auckland, New Zealand
• The basic cost of living in Auckland
• Health and medical insurance in New Zealand
• Airfare from Auckland, New Zealand, to the scholar's home country at the conclusion of his or her course of study
• For scholars engaged in research, a special grant may be available for thesis preparation

Eligibility

Applicants must

• Be under 35 years old at the time of application. In exceptional cases, for programs that are appropriate for senior officials and managers, the age limit is 45 years
• Have gained admission to an approved master's at an approved academic institution
• Have a bachelors degree or its equivalent with a superior academic record
• Have at least two years of full-time professional work experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application
• Be proficient in oral and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies
• Be a national of an ADB borrowing member. For a list of current developing member countries visit ADB - Japan Scholarship Programme
• Be in good health
• Agree to return to your home country after completing the program

Academic requirement:

• Must have completed one year of postgraduate study in public health at a recognized university (or similar institution) following an undergraduate degree, with a GPE of 5.0

English language proficiency:

• TOEFL: 90 with a written score of 21
• IELTS: 6.5 with no section score below 6.0
• PTE: 58 with no communicative skills score below 50

• Copy of an offer letter to the University of Auckland
• Academic documentation – both academic transcripts and degree certificates
• Certificate of Employment for the duration of employment issued by the company
• Certificate of Income issued by the company
• Certificate of Family Income issued by the company. Must be either parent's or spouse's annual/monthly income
• Copy of the Passport
• International English proficiency test results e.g. IELTS or TOEFL. Test results must be no more than 24 months old
• A recent passport photograph
• A curriculum vitae - a brief and current history of your education, and job skills and experiences
• Two references (no more than 24 months old) on official letterhead, supporting the application to study in New Zealand
  • These must be relevant to the scholarship you are applying for and your nominated program of study. If applicable, provide one reference from your current employer, one from a relevant government organization, and one from a former lecturer or school principal (for undergraduate applicants)
• If you have a research component in your program, a statement of 500 words (maximum) outlining your proposed research topic, including the research question and objectives, proposed methodology, timeline, and justification for home-located research is required
  • The statement should also identify the significance and possible application of the proposed research topic to your home country
