Scholarship Overview

University of Southern California offers the Asian Pacific Alumni Association Scholarship. Every year, the International Students Office of University of Southern California awards scholarships to degree-seeking students who have specified financial needs. Note that a large portion of the scholarship funds come from International student tuition. Asian Pacific Alumni Association Scholarship is applicable for Masters Degree. The award is applicable for the courses like Master of Science in Business Analytics (STEM),Full-Time MBA,Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering,M.S. in Computer Science - Software Engineering,Master of Science in Electrical Engineering,Master of Science in Computer Science,Master of Science in Computer Engineering,IBEAR MBA,Master of Science in Global Supply Chain Management ,Master of Science in Marketing,Executive MBA,Master of Science in Computer Science with Specialization in Computer Networks,MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences,Master of Accounting,Master of Science in Civil Engineering (General Option),Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering,Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering,Master of Science in Applied Mathematics. If we consider the amount of the Asian Pacific Alumni Association Scholarship, then it varies each semester. The applicants should review the scholarship application in order to fully understand the availability and amount for that particular semester. Bachelor degree is required for applicants to be eligible for this scholarship. As part of the selection process, students must attend an interview.   • In the 2021-2022 academic year, the association awarded $200,000 in scholarships to 80 USC undergraduate and graduate students
  • Scholarship awards are not guaranteed from one academic year to another. All recipients are required to re-apply on an annual basis for scholarship awards

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a full-time student (undergraduate, transfer, graduate, or professional) enrolled in a USC degree program for the entire 2022-2023 academic year (both fall and spring semesters). Incoming first-year students who have not enrolled at the time of application are not eligible
  • Applicant must have achieved a minimum of an overall 3.0-grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in his/her college course work. (USC medical students who do not receive grade points are exempt)
  • Interview: A select number of applicants will be called in for interviews with the scholarship committee approximately four weeks after the deadline date

Preference will be given to following candidates:

  • Applicants of all ethnic backgrounds are eligible for consideration
  • Additional positive consideration will be given to Asian Pacific students or students who have shown a commitment to the Asian Pacific community
  • Scholarships are awarded using both merit and need-based criteria

  • LOR: ONE letter of recommendation from an individual familiar with your involvement in community organizations. It is encouraged, though not specifically required, that your involvement be a focus on serving an Asian Pacific community
  • The applicant will also be asked to list any additional reference from a person familiar with your academic work. Academic reference DOES NOT have to submit a written letter of recommendation
  • Application Process
    • A complete online scholarship application form
    • Official transcript of completed coursework

      • Complete transcript from preceding college or university (for incoming graduate students)
    • In a well-developed personal statement not to exceed 500 words, please address the topic below
      • The statement should be typed in 12-point font and double-spaced with your full name and 10 digit USC ID number at the upper right-hand corner of each page. (Can be uploaded with online application)
      • Topic: What do you feel are some of the challenges faced today in the Asian Pacific community and how do you feel like you can address those challenges based on your chosen field of study or community service?  How do you feel, by receiving this scholarship, you can personally make a positive impact
    • In a separate document, please list all academic honors you have received within the past four years. Include the year in which the honor was received and briefly describe the selection process for receiving the award. (Can be uploaded with online application)
    • In a separate document, please list all campus and community organizations of which you are a member. Indicate your level of involvement, and list any leadership positions you have held in each respective organization. In one paragraph, describe which activity or organization was the most meaningful to you. (Can be uploaded with online application)

Additional Information

  • Scholarship recipients agree to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours for the APAA during the academic year in which they receive their scholarship
  • Volunteer hours are to be completed directly through events and programs produced or supported by the APAA
  • Students studying abroad for one or both semesters are expected to complete their volunteer hours in their host country through local official USC affiliated clubs or organizations, or upon their return. If opportunities do not exist in their host country, it is possible that this requirement may not be fulfilled
  • All volunteer hours must be completed during the academic year in which the award is received
