Scholarship Overview

 In continuation with UK’s commitment to the Commonwealth countries, every year 800 students are given a chance to undertake postgraduate studies at universities in the UK. The Commonwealth Scholarships are awarded to talented individuals with the potential to make a positive impact on the global stage.

The Commonwealth Scholarships scheme is awarded to students belonging to the Commonwealth nations who would otherwise not be able to afford postgraduate studies in the UK. The scheme helps to support future innovators and leaders, by funding postgraduate studies in a range of different study formats.

 

In India, The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship programme is managed by the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission (CSC), The British Council, India, the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

 

Who can apply to the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship?

To be eligible to apply to the Commonwealth Scholarship,

• Candidates must be a citizen or permanent resident of a Commonwealth country
• Candidates must have an undergraduate honours degree of at least upper second class
• The scholarships are open for students who are unable to afford to study in the UK without the scholarship

 

Candidates should note that there is no restriction on the course of study but the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission gives priority to applicants whose studies are most relevant to their development criteria. Most scholarships are fully funded, which means that, as well as covering tuition fees, the scholar will also receive their airfare to and from the UK, and a living allowance to support them while they are here.
