Scholarship Overview

The Felix Scholarship for the University of Oxford is awarded to those Indian students who wish to pursue graduation in any subject at the university, the University of Reading and the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (SOAS). Students have been getting this scholarship since 1991. With the support of the Felix Trustees, the three partner universities have been administrating the scholarships. Also, one award is also given to a student every year, who does not hold Indian nationality but is a resident of a low-income nation outside India and features in the DAC List of ODA Recipients.

The scholarships will coverOne return flight from India to the UK, 100% of program fees, and a grant for living costs, which will be around £16,164. Students will get the amount for the complete duration of your fee liability for the agreed program.

The Felix Scholarships at Oxford eligibility criteria require both Indian and non-Indian scholarship students to apply for studying a new, full-time masters or DPhil program at the university.Students should not be holding any previous master’s degree which is of the same level as the program for which they wish to enroll. Also, students should be unable to secure admission at Oxford University without financial support.

For the Indian Scholarship selection,students shortlisted may be required to fill-up a short questionnaire. After this, they will have to appear for an interview in India only. No interview will be conducted for the non-Indian Scholarship.

No separate application procedure exists for this scholarship. Students should send their application for graduate study by the relevant December/January deadline for their respective courses. Your nationality and ordinary residence and qualifications will be analysed to make a decision. Make sure you hold an offer letter from the university where you wish to study.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must not have previously studied a course at the same level as the course to which they are applying (ie if they already have a master's degree, they will not be considered for this scholarship if they are applying for another master's course). They must be unable to take up their place at Oxford without financial assistance
  • Applicants must be successful in being offered a place on their course after consideration of applications received by the relevant January deadline for the course

In addition, the following eligibility criteria apply:

  • Applicants must be a national of and ordinarily resident in India
  • Applicants must have a first-class undergraduate or master's degree from an Indian university
  • IELTS: 7.5 with min score of 7.0 in each component
  • Interview: Interviews are normally held as part of the admissions process and take place throughout the year
    • Candidates will be shortlisted based on academic ability and fit with the course
    • The interview will generally be by telephone or by Skype (preferably with video) by a member of the admissions committee
  • Applicants with a full-time degree-level course of a minimum of nine months, at a recognized institution, where the medium of instruction and assessment was entirely in English can be exempted from the English proficiency exam at the discretion of the University
  • To be eligible for consideration for this scholarship, applicants must be successful in being offered a place on their course after consideration of applications received by the relevant December/January deadline for the course. Course applications which are held over after the December/January deadline to be re-evaluated against applications received by the March deadline or course applications which have been put on a waiting list are not eligible for scholarship consideration.

  • SOP: Applicants need to submit a maximum of 1000 words of a statement of purpose. This will be assessed for:
    • your reasons for applying
    • evidence of motivation for and understanding of the proposed area of study
    • the ability to present a reasoned case in English
    • commitment to the subject, beyond the requirements of the degree course
    • capacity for sustained and intense work
    • reasoning ability
    • ability to absorb new ideas, often presented abstractly, at a rapid pace

  • LOR: Three references are required generally academic
    • Academic references are preferred though applicants may submit professional references if these are relevant to the course
    • References will support intellectual ability, academic achievement, motivation, and the ability to work in a group
  • CV/Resume: a document of one to two pages highlighting the academic achievements and any relevant professional experience
  • Official transcript(s): Transcripts should give detailed information of the individual grades received in your university-level qualifications to date
    • Applicants should only upload official documents issued by their institution and any transcript not in English should be accompanied by a certified translation
  • Applicants who are shortlisted for the Indian scholarship may be asked to complete a short questionnaire before being invited for an interview in India. There is no interview for the non-Indian scholarship

  • One award is made each year to a non-Indian student who is a national and ordinarily resident in a country (outside of India) which categorised by the World Bank as being low income
  • In addition, for the non-Indian scholarship, the following eligibility criteria apply:
    • Applicant should have a first-class undergraduate or master's degree;
    • Applicants must not already hold a degree from a university outside of their home country (this rule does not apply to study undertaken whilst in receipt of a Felix Scholarship); and 
    • Applicants are expected to return to your home county after completing their studies
