Scholarship Overview

Leiden University offers the Holland Scholarship. This one time scholarship offered by the International Students Office of Leiden University awards scholarships to degree-seeking students who have specified financial needs. Note that a large portion of the scholarship funds come from International student tuition. Holland Scholarship is applicable for Bachelors Degree. The award is applicable for the courses like BSc Global Challenges (Honours Programme). If we consider the amount of the Holland Scholarship, then it varies each semester. The applicants should review the scholarship application in order to fully understand the availability and amount for that particular semester. To be eligible for this scholarship students must have appeared for 12th grade. Foreign students wishing to apply for this scholarship must take English proficiency exams such as TOEFL and IELTS. Eligibility

Applicants:

  • Must not be an EEA passport holder and are not eligible for support from the Dutch study finance system
  • Must have never studied at a Dutch university or a Dutch university of applied sciences
  • Must have completed pre-university education outside The Netherlands
  • All students must prove that their mathematics skills are sufficient in order to pass the science-oriented compulsory courses in the first year
  • The IB Diploma awarded after the completion of the full IB Diploma Program with a score of at least 30 points (excluding bonus points)
    • With Mathematics HL grade 4 Mathematics SL grade 4 Math Studies grade 5
    • Must have reasonable proficiency in mathematics to pass the science-oriented compulsory courses in the first year
  • ELP requirements:
    • TOEFL: Minimum score of 25 on each item 
    • IELTS: Minimum score of 7.0 on each item

  1. Compose a letter of motivation, specifically for the Holland Scholarship. In your letter, answer the following questions in separate paragraphs:

    • What makes you an outstanding student, besides your grades? Elaborate on your activities and/or broader interests besides your study. (max 150 words)
    • Elaborate briefly why you wish to study at Leiden University in particular, and why you apply for this scholarship. (max 150 words)
    • Add a financial plan to your motivation letter. In this plan, set out how you plan to finance the three years of your bachelor programme. (max 1 page)
