  • Scholarship amount
    • £9,250 to cover Home (UK) Tuition fees, or an equivalent fee discount for overseas students; and £500 towards books and course related costs, for 3 years of study only
  • Payment arrangements
    • This scholarship will cover Home (UK) tuition fees only. Overseas fee payers will be given an equivalent fee discount and would be required to pay the difference between Home UK and Overseas fees
    • This scholarship provides a £500 stipend towards books and course related costs. We will contact you at the start of each academic year to arrange payment. You will need a UK bank account to receive payments
    • These scholarships will only be made available as a reduction on the tuition fee that is payable on registration at the University. Payment cannot be offset against a tuition fee deposit if one is required
    • If you intermit from your course, you may, at the discretion of the University, be entitled to a prorata payment of the remainder of your award on your return to study

Eligibility

  • Eligibility
    • This scholarship is for Home or Overseas students who are entirely self-funded. Students receiving a repayable loan to fund their studies will be considered as self-funded. Undergraduate students in receipt of a Maintenance Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) for living expenses would be considered, however this scholarship cannot be held in conjunction with a Tuition Fee Loan from SFE
    • Students must register for the first year of a full-time undergraduate LLB degree at the University of Essex
    • These scholarships are restricted to students studying on any Undergraduate LLB course within Essex Law School in 2024-25 only
    • Applicants must be either a wheelchair user, blind or deaf
    • Applicants must meet our standard conditional offer
    • This scholarship is available for three years of study only. It will not be available during third year of the four-year Placement Year or Year Abroad degrees (i.e. the year in industry for Placement Year degrees, or the student exchange year for Year Abroad degrees)
    • Only one scholarship award can be made per student and the award cannot be held in conjunction with any other University of Essex scholarships
    • Successful applicants should be available for promotional activities

  • Students who are not eligible The following students are NOT eligible for this scholarship regardless of meeting the above criteria:
    • Undergraduate students who are studying any course other than LLB
    • University of Essex International College students progressing from the International Year One
    • University of Essex International College (UEIC) Pathway students
    • Students undertaking a degree that is normally delivered wholly online
    • This scholarship award does not apply to deferred entry. Where a scholarship has been awarded to a student who subsequently defers entry to the following academic year, the award will be withdrawn and the applicant will be considered again in line with the terms and conditions that apply in the new proposed year of entry
    • Students transferring into the second year from another UK higher education institution
    • Students directly continuing from one course to another (for example from Foundation degree or HND on to the final year of an honours degree)
    • Students who are fully or partly sponsored
    • Current students whose first year of undergraduate study at the University of Essex, was prior to academic year 2024-25
