Scholarship Overview

Laurel Hummel Scholarship are awarded by the UCLA Extension, which supports students in its academics and research pursuits. Laurel Hummel Scholarship includes a one time award of up to USD 1650, which can be used for the purpose of tuition payment only. The scholarship does not include other expenses such as accommodation, living expenses, travel expenses, etc. UCLA Extension usually looks for candidates with a holistic profile, and not just academic excellence. This scholarship is available to students from all countries. As for the academic eligibility criteria, candidates are expected to have 12th that can prove an academically excellent background. Students also need to appear for the following exams: TOEFL and IELTS. In addition to these requirements, candidates might also be required to provide LOR, Essays, and Official Transcripts.

• Every quarter, the committee awards three scholarships valuing $1,650 for each recipient. Scholarship funds may only be applied to offset course fees at UCLA Extension and must be used within two years of award notification

Eligibility

• Applicants must have passed high school
• Duolingo minimum score: 105/160
• Students currently enrolled in an academic institution where the primary language of instruction is English or International Baccalaureates (IB) students, may submit an official academic transcript or verification of enrollment from their school as proof of English proficiency
• Applicants who are citizens of India and identify with/use English as their first/primary language do not need to establish English language proficiency via examination
• Applicants must also have following eligibility:
  • Applicant must be a citizen of a foreign country or holder of dual citizenship (United States + Foreign Country)
  • Have full-time F-1 visa student status at UCLA Extension (enrolled in 12 units per quarter)
  • Have completed at least 12 units with grades of C or better within your UCLA Extension certificate program
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 within your certificate program
  • Be in good academic standing at the time of application, having followed all regulations for F-1 students as well as all policies of UCLA Extension

• Official transcript from UCLA Extension
• Two typed recommendations using the form provided in the application. One recommendation must be completed by a UCLA Extension instructor of a class taken by the applicant. The other recommendation may be completed by a UCLA Extension instructor or another person who can detail the applicant’s academic, professional, or community achievements at UCLA or in the home country
• All applicants are required to participate in a scheduled online essay sitting. The requirement will be conducted in Canvas. Applicants will have 45 minutes to complete the writing assignment. The essay topic is general. There is no preparation required. Applicants who do not sit for the essay lose their eligibility
