Scholarship Overview

Utrecht University offers the NL Scholarship. This one time scholarship offered by the International Students Office of Utrecht University awards scholarships to degree-seeking students who have specified financial needs. Note that a large portion of the scholarship funds come from International student tuition. NL Scholarship is applicable for Masters Degree. The award is applicable for the courses like MSc Energy Science. If we consider the amount of the NL Scholarship, then it varies each semester. The applicants should review the scholarship application in order to fully understand the availability and amount for that particular semester. To qualify for the award, candidates must have completed the Bachelor degree and passed the 12th grade. Foreign students wishing to apply for this scholarship must take English proficiency exams such as TOEFL, IELTS .

Eligibility

• To be eligible for an NL Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria: 

  • Applicants must not hold an EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for support under the Dutch study grant and loan system
  • Applicants must never have been enrolled at an educational institution in the Netherlands (if they only took part in an exchange programme in the Netherlands, this does not make them ineligible)
  • Applicants must have applied for an international master’s programme at Utrecht University with a start date of 1 September 2025

• Motivation letter explaining the relevance of your time in the Netherlands and at Utrecht University to your career goals
• A statement of financial resources demonstrating you can cover the remaining cost

How to apply: 

• After submitting an application (or applications) for an HS-eligible master’s programme before the stated deadline, non-EU/EEA students will have the option of submitting an application for the NL Scholarship
• Applicants will see the HS application(s) in their OSIRIS Online Application account dashboard. Click view/edit for the HS linked to the programme (related process) they wish to apply for, answer the questions and upload the requested documents
