Scholarship Overview

Every year, the Board of Admissions awards the Presidential Scholarship to incoming students with excellent academic records. In addition to being among our most academically talented students, Presidential Scholars demonstrate excellence beyond the classroom and are leaders in their schools and communities. This $8,000 tuition scholarship is renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study at Lawrence Technological University.

Presidential Scholarship for Lawrence Technological University

The US Presidential Scholarship Program was established in 1964 by the President’s executive order, to determine and praise some of our nation's most prominent graduating high school seniors. The Presidential Scholars program is among the nation's highest honors for high school students. The program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional visual, creative, and performing arts talent. Further, this program was again developed to recognize students who demonstrate ability and achievement in their careers. Presidential Scholarship for Lawrence Technological University selects around 160 students every year.

  • GPA requirements vary according to the scholarship a student holds.
  • Reissue of a scholarship is never a guarantee as it depends on the availability of the fund at that time.

Presidential Scholarship Eligibility

1. For the General component of the program, students need to meet the below criteria to be eligible for Presidential Scholarship:

  • Are or will be U.S. citizens or Legal Permanent U.S. Residents by the application deadline (Students who were not U.S. citizens or Legal Permanent U.S. Residents on the day they took SAT or ACT exam are considered in the determination of the candidate pool.).
  • Graduate or receive a diploma between January and August of 2023, the current program year; and
  • Score exceptionally well on either the SAT of the College Board or the ACT of the American College Testing Program

2. For the Arts component of the program, students need to meet the below criteria to be eligible for Presidential Scholarship:

  • Are or will be U.S. citizens or Legal Permanent U.S. Residents by the application deadline.
  • Graduate or receive a diploma between January and August of 2023, the current program year.
  • Demonstrate academic achievement and talent in the visual, creative, and performing arts.
  • Participate in the Young Arts program.

3. For the CTE component of the program, students need to meet the below criteria to be eligible for Presidential Scholarship:

  • Are or will be U.S. citizens or Legal Permanent U.S. Residents by the application deadline;
  • Graduate or receive a diploma between January and August of 2023, the current program year;
  • Demonstrate academic achievement in career and technical programs; and
  • Students who are nominated by their state is Chief State School Officer.

  • While Lawrence Tech does not have a set list of required courses to apply to the University, there are courses that are recommended to aid in the transition to college. In particular, students who wish to study architecture, computer science, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, or physics are advised to complete the following high school course work:
    • Algebra 1 and 2
    • One semester of trigonometry
    • One semester of pre-calculus or senior math
    • Two semesters of chemistry
    • Two semesters of physics

Additional Information

  • Test scores are not required to receive scholarships; students who are unable to submit standardized scores will not be disadvantaged in the merit scholarship process. However, if you have already taken or plan on taking the SAT or ACT and would like to submit test scores, your test scores will be considered supplemental information
  • New students are eligible to receive up to two scholarships
  • Students are only eligible for one merit based scholarship OR the Raise.me micro-scholarships
  • Merit based freshman scholarships, Raise.me micro-scholarships and other LTU scholarships are only offered to new incoming students in the fall semester
  • The following types of students are not eligible to receive merit based scholarships:

    • students returning to LTU
    • students who change entry terms
    • students pursuing a second Bachelor's degree
