Scholarship Overview

The First Year undergraduate students admitted through CAO in a full-time Level 8 primary degree programme are awarded the Quercus Entrance Scholarship for the University College Cork. The selection of candidates is based on Leaving Certificate Examination (LCE) Points achievement. The top 15 students in their college are chosen for this scholarship.

The Quercus Entrance Scholarships is awarded on merit based according to the standard UCC scoring system for Leaving Certificate results as set out in the guidelines for undergraduate entry requirements. The best of six subjects taken at the first attempt at the same sitting of leaving certificate is considered only. The eligibility for the scholarship is that the student registers for a degree programme and meets all the normal entry requirements for the same.

If there are more than 15 students in a college on a top score on Leaving Certificate Exam (LCE), all eligible candidates will be awarded the Quercus Entrance Scholarships. About 225 students across the four colleges fitting these criteria have received scholarships in 2021.

If the student availing of this scholarship drops for the programme or fails to meet the attendance and other requirements for the programme including examination entry then they may be asked to repay the university the whole or part of the scholarship.

Under this scholarship, you get a Book token and Title of Quercus Entrance Scholarships and parchment. No application is required for this scholarship. You need to a registered UCC student to be eligible for this scholarship.

Eligibility

• To be eligible to receive a scholarship a student must have met the normal entry requirements for the degree programme in question and have been validly registered for same.
• A student who has previously registered for a programme leading to a degree in any third level college shall not be eligible for the award of a Quercus Entrance Scholarship.
• Scholarships shall be awarded in order of merit in accordance with the standard UCC scoring system for Leaving Certificate results as set out in the guidelines for Undergraduate Entry Requirements.
• Only performance in the six best subjects taken at the first attempt at the same sitting of the Leaving Certificate will be counted.
