In this article, we will discuss in detail about the top universities, the education system, popular courses, steps to apply, cost of studying, scholarships offered, job opportunities, and more.

Education in Denmark

Denmark has a lot to offer and is a great place to study. Denmark is one of the most popular study destinations in Europe. It has been attracting students from all over the world for years. There are many reasons why Denmark is such a great country for studying: it has an excellent education system, it offers affordable tuition fees, and the quality of life in Denmark is generally high. The Danish government also offers many scholarships for international students, which means that you can get your degree without spending any money on tuition fees. It’s not just about the quality of education though; Denmark also offers some of the best student accommodation in Europe as well as some of the most beautiful scenery in Scandinavia.

Education System of Denmark

The educational system in Denmark is well-known, and a number of educational institutions provide all students with a variety of degrees. Below is an overview of the degrees:

  • A pre-degree Bachelor's in the academy can be earned after 1.5–2.5 years of study, depending on the number of ECTS (European credits) needed. Programs need a minimum three-month work placement and are aimed for careers in business, industry, and science. With an additional 1.5 years of study, the Academy Profession qualification can occasionally be "topped up" to obtain a Bachelor's.
  • Bachelor's Degree: Depending on the programme chosen, this degree can be earned in three to four years. With the exception of the liberal arts, all fields can offer a bachelor's degree. An undergraduate degree also falls under the category of a professional bachelor's degree. A professional degree is designed for occupations, and all programmes require in-service training as part of the curriculum (for a minimum of 6 months).
  • A master's degree typically requires two years to complete. The length of some programmes, such as medicine and veterinary medicine, ranges from 2.5 to 3 years.
  • PhD programmes require students to do an independent research project. The typical length of the curriculum is three years.

Denmark's System of Credit

The ECTS credit system is utilised by all Danish educational institutions. The final calculation takes into account the credits that a student accumulates during the course. The Danish Ministry of Education and Science states that a semester equates to 30 ECTS credits and a whole academic year to 60 ECTS credits. 25 to 30 hours of work are equivalent to one ECTS credit point. This covers both time spent within and outside of the university. Depending on the workload, different courses are given different numbers of credits. Therefore, a 2-year Master's program has 4 semesters and equals 120 ECTS credits, but a 3-year complete Bachelor's degree has 6 semesters and equals 180 ECTS credits.
