Seats in IIST are allotted strictly as per your rank. If they have your desired Specialisation at the time of Admission then you must give your choice for this. But possibly it could be optional subject later on then you have to choose main branch first.

In Tamil Nadu admissions to engineering colleges are through entrance test conducted by state govt. If you have appeared and passed with good marks, then you have chance of Admission.

Salary on placements majorly depends on the institution from which you pass out. IITian will get better salary than an NITian. But then afterwards, your own hard work and reputation will carry the day and will decide your salary.

I can understand the confusion. Aerospace is the name of the industry that produces aeronautical products. Yes, you can seek admission in this branch. You will have to appear and pass an appropriate entrance test.

Yes, you can get lateral admission in 2nd year of aeronautical engineering after completion of Diploma in mechanical engineering provided you fulfill other criteria if required. However, admissions are only in colleges of your state.
