Aeronautical / Aerospace engineers deal with designing new aircraft and its systems, whereas Aircraft Maintenance Engineering deals with the repair of these aircraft. Therefore, for long term career and full work life cycle Aeronautical engineers are paid better salaries in comparison to AME.

Job opportunities will be limited to specific sector in industry where aircraft are handled. A better idea would be to opt for more generalised course.
