Please first understand which degrees are offered in Animation.
B.Sc Animation is a 3-years duration course.
Bachelor of Design (B. Des.) Course in Animation is a 4-years duration course. The four years course includes 2d, 3d, VFX, etc. The difference between the two degrees is that the B.Des. Course is not only 1 year more but offers usually an international syllabus, which is completely focused on Animation only.
Few of the top colleges are Artemisia College of Art & Design (government. University), MIT, Pune, NID, Ahmedabad (the top in the country), DSK, Pune, etc. While selecting a college, consider factors such as the fee, whether the faculty has animation industry experience or not, whether the college has facilities such as its own animation production studio, whether the college teaches classical animation (base of all kind of animation) or not, etc. Availability of equipment such as Light boxes, etc. should be there. Do your own research by calling various colleges or email them. Do not go for training institutes or certificate and Diploma courses as they teach superficially. Look for colleges, preferably affiliated to the government universities. Usually, they are cheaper and more authentic. Artemisia College, NID, etc. have an entrance test. By beginning the degree course in Animation, Fergusson College has added another feather to its hat. University of Pune, found it necessary to establish an independent Degree in Animation, to cater to the high demand in entertainment and allied sectors. It endeavors to provide strong foundation in the fundamentals of Artistic Design, Story Development, Digital Creation and Portfolio Development through this course. Fergusson Academy of Creative Sciences a part of DES, that conducts courses in creative sciences, was already conducting a degree course in Animation affiliated to KSOU. When Savitribai Phule Pune University proposed to begin a course in 2010-11, DES Fergusson College grabbed the opportunity. The Department of Animation at Fergusson College was started in August 2012.
