You can do fine arts from the university which teaches you about the traditional art and basic knowledge of animation or you can do it from an institute which starts from the basics and you can explore the whereabouts of the industry.
You can learn editing, visual effects and graphic designing if you pick animation course.

Distance learning was not devised as an alternative to classroom learning or practical learning with the teachers. The same applies to the question as well.
