Animation in India

Please first understand which degrees are offered in Animation. B.Sc. Animation & VFX is a 3-years duration course. Bachelor of Design (B. Des. ). Course in Animation is a 4-years duration course. The four years course includes 2d, 3d, VFX, etc. The difference between the two degrees is that the B. Des. Course is not only 1 year more but offers usually an international syllabus, which is completely focused on Animation only. Few of the top colleges are Artemisia College of Art & Design (Govt. University), MIT, Pune, NID, Ahmedabad (the top in the country), DSK, Pune, etc. While selecting college, consider factors such as the fee, whether the faculty has animation industry experience or not, whether the college has facilities such as its own animation production studio, whether the college teaches classical animation (base of all kind of animation) or not, etc. Availability of equipments such as Light boxes, etc. should be there. Do your own research by calling various colleges or email them. Do not go for training institutes or certificate and diploma courses as they teach superficially. Look for colleges, preferably affiliated to the government universities. Usually they are cheaper and more authentic.

There are many colleges in India for 2D and 3D animation which provide better education. In 2D and 3D animation, students mainly learn about character sketching, background artistic animator modular and illustrator.

This is a premier private institute by Andhra Pradesh Tech. established in 2007 affiliated to IGNOU. This college offers better placements to the students and awarded as best the placement college for animation in last 2 year.
2. Arena Animation
This Institute provides the national and international level of learning in 2D and 3D animation. This institute has trained and certified faculty members which provide better education to their student. This institute has better placement scope as in past years almost 5K students got placed.
3. IIFA Multimedia
This institute is one of the best choices for graphics, animation, designing, fashion and jewellery field in Bangalore est. in 1991. This institute has a high tech. lab for students.

Animation institutes and colleges are way behind the industry standards in terms of software use as well as current techniques in the animation industry. They use decade old software to teach, as the institution can't afford to update the software and the hardware. Many don't even know of devices called the Pen Tablet and Cintiq, which is what the international studios use. The teachers are themselves not creative or talented enough to teach and give industry standard assignments.
The faculty members at the institute mostly comprised animators or graphic designers who had turned to teaching, because they themselves could not find better jobs in the industry. One of the biggest challenges that the animation industry is currently facing is the demand-supply gap. This is mainly due to the non-availability of adequate human resources for the animation industry.
