Take the creative subjects or arts or languages. I would recommend that as you study for your 10+2, you start practicing sketching to begin with. Try to observe things closely and sketch them. You can also buy good sketch books from the market for sketching including shading, shadows, and human figures.
However, soon you may have to upgrade to more serious books like "The Animator's Survival Kit" by Richards William. Psychology and Literature are two useful subjects. Try to participate in writing, drawing/ painting, sports, dramatics, music, singing etc. whatever is possible for you.

For becoming an animator you need to complete at least a standard graduate degree. However you may follow these steps to become an animator:
-Obtain a Bachelor's Degree
-Gain Work Experience
-Maintain Proficiency in the Technology
-Consider Graduate Training as a Career Advancement Option

Character Animation is about the skill to make the character act through Animation. It's similar to the puppet show you may have seen many times.
Once you have learnt your program in Animation, enhance your skills by doing short film/ internet or update by learning through internet. You may do best learning while you are at work. There are lot of online learning options. Do explore them. I would suggest an Internship to hone your skills in character animation or character modelling.
While choosing any Institute ensure that you are taught by Experienced and proficient Mentors. Also ensure:
1. Adequate Infrastructure.
2. Industry In

What is more important for you? First check if you're suited for Animation. Animation is an art form and a very demanding career. It has ample opportunities for the creatively talented people. Opportunities lie in:
1. Animation Design
2. Game Design
3. Graphics
4. Storyboarding
5. 3d Modelling
6. Texturing And Lighting
7. Dynamics and VFX and
8. Of course Animation.
However, choosing between these must be done after seeing your performance in each of these. Typically you should have good sketching skills to be able to make a sound career in this.

This is very good question which everyone is raising now days because I have seen continues growth of Animation field from last many years, I can answer your query.
If you talk about 2D Animation you can count big hits (Indian industry) like:
1. Hanuman Series Movies.
2. Lav-Kush Movies.
3. Chota Bheem Series, etc.
List is expending with many good projects in coming year which means scope for 2D Animation in not declining at all. Now, if we talk about 3D movies (Indian industry) like:
1. Road Side Romeo
2. Toonpur Ka Superhero.

If you're creative, you can always consider going for Design and Animation. This is a field where nobody cares for your qualification, they only see if you can do quality work. In fact, the University Model has not succeeded in any Skill field across the world. It is surely a youthful career. however, do note that visual communication is more inclined towards Graphic Design. UI/UX design program is closed to Web Design. However, web field also requires logic for web development. If you possess combination of creativity and logic, then you could prefer it. It is amongst one of the most promising career direction these days. Even engineering graduates are preferring career in Web or Mobile segments.
